So what happened to Jeff to have his stuff repoed?
I think his bubble just popped. He was riding high on the Red Rascal stuff, but the public has turned to something new and his book sales have plummeted. With the tenuous grasp on reality that Jeff has, I can imagine that he wasn’t exactly making prudent plans for the future.
This is entirely my own speculation, because I think the repo strips are the beginning of that part of the story, rather than a follow-on to something he set up before. I’ve gone back at least 30 strips from the beginning of the repo storyline just now to check and there’s nothing.
He wrote a book about his fantasy alter ego, the Red Rascal, who fights against the Taliban. The book was a hit as a romance novel and he got an advance to write two sequels. He blew the money on a giant mansion that he really couldn’t afford.
During the post-Alex wedding conversation with Jeff & Zipper, Jeff mentions that he can’t get a girlfriend because he’s already underwater on his mortgage and girls can smell that.

I thought that they were going to go with the whole success thing being a fantasy of Jeff’s and Zipper burst the bubble.
I’d think he couldn’t have bought the Porsche and mansion without verifying a large income.
But then, it is the Funnies. 
But when he got his advance check it was a large income. He just wasted it, and clearly hasn’t been working on the sequels.
