I’ve stumbled upon a wonderful game in Steam’s Greenlight. It’s a tactical SWAT simulation. Even in alpha it’s a great game. It is, in a way, the mirror opposite of Hotline Miami.
There’s a demo out http://inthekillhouse.com/buy/ (the Lite version)
I haven’t had a chance to play it enough yet to have a choice of weapons beyond the basic assault rifle or pistol. All I know is that I’m not very good at it but I’m enjoying getting better. Haven’t got to the firehouse level yet.
Are you a “planner” or a “real-timer”. I like planning as much as I can in advance when it works out but it’s frustrating when it doesn’t so I normally end up doing it in little bits. Rarely in real time though.
Little bits too. I enjoy the flexibility and coordination that affords; flexible coordination being a big part of what that game is about, I think.
I usually plan the next 1-10 seconds and when something comes up or that section is over, I pause and plan again. All real time might be a bit much with 4 people (usually) and up to 8. Aside from quite simple maps, going all-plan is a little much too; you need to keep flexible.
Some maps like Maple Street or Embassy are quite difficult at first but when my skills* increased, I found them alright even if they’ll still claim a few officers once in a while.
If you play the game on Steam, you may consider downloading SiC’s Sound Mod which gives you much more satisfying sounds.
Or, you know, there’s other ways you can get a game to try it before you decide if you want to buy it. Buying it on Steam will give you access to mods which add a lot to it.
There is infinite “pausibility” so although it plays out in real time when not paused, when paused you can give as many movement orders to your men as you like. If you use good tactics you can plan an entire mission from start to finish and then push play and watch it unfold. You can use go-codes to coordinate movements between your men and so on.
You can also save / view the mission in real time after you’ve finished, so some youtube videos you see may appear to have been played in real time when they weren’t.
I just started playing. I did the first level twice. I have a feeling it is going to take me forever to remember all of the buttons. I would have preferred to have a full tutorial.
