Doors fans: Where was the cover of Strange Days shot?

Do any Doors fans here know where the cover of their second album, Strange Days, was shot? I used to know this, but I’ve forgotten now. I seem to remember that it was somewhere in New York City, but I’m not sure. One reason I’d like to know is for the possibility of seeing the site when I visit NYC next Spring.

and another reason I’d like to know is I think it’s one of the coolest album covers ever.

It was shot in a private alley (and historical district) near my old apartment. Called Sniffen Court, it’s at 150 East 36th Street in midtown Manhattan.

Yay, my first outright answered question!

Cool, thanks for the links! Since it’s private, can it be seen through a gate, or is it possible that whoever’s in charge, like a building superintendent, might be kind enough to let me in?

I’ve looked in a few times - about all you can see is what’s in that first cite I linked. I don’t know of any super - there is a call box on the gate, but I have no idea if it works or not. It might just ring each individual building. Those aren’t huge buildings so there might be no super, just a buzzer per building.

I should probably also mention (since you’re a Doors fan) that around the corner from my office is an Henry Diltz’s art gallery. Diltz did alot of musician photography, including the Morrison Hotel cover. He’s got the front window painted exactly like the hotel window.
