Doper drummers/rockers - why is this outrageous?

I totally agree that the theatrics are way inappropriate for the choice of song. I’m just saying, don’t blame the drummer, it seems to me that this is the band’s schtick and he’s doing what the rest of the band wants him to do.

I’m glad we’re in agreement about the inappropriateness, and I’m sure you’re right that everyone in the band figures they’re scoring major points with the audience.

It sure wouldn’t be the first time I’ve questioned the decisions that some bands make in terms of how they present themselves or other choices they make.

For example, I’ve seen people with a fair amount of talent do stuff like preceding a song with “And now the next song we’re going to do is ‘Oh Pretty Woman’ by Roy Orbison.”

For God’s sake, everybody knows you’re going to “do a song”…why do you need to spell it out? Furthermore, everybody knows that song and who it’s by…just go into it and get on with the program, instead of bringing things to a grinding halt between every number.

My god, do I ever hate this sort of inane stage banter (not bashing good banter, just inane banter.) Our singer would do this sometimes, pausing to introduce every song, until me and the drummer told him to knock it off and just at least get through three or four songs before maybe pausing to talk to the audience.

Wow, I never knew that Bowie and SRV parted over pay. I can think of reasons to not have SRV in the band, but money would not be one of them. Then again, I’ve never commanded Bowie’s paycheck, either.

I found this on Wikipedia:

I have never heard that story. The one I read in a Guitar Player or maybe that SRV bio Caught in the Crossfire was that Bowie saw him at the Montreaux Jazz Festival (SRV was supposedly booed for not playing real jazz - I have seen the video and don’t hear the boos, but the legend remains), hired him to do lead work on the Cat People single and then Let’s Dance. They were about to embark on the Serious Moonlight tour and SRV ended up quitting at the last minute due to a combination of opportunities for Double Trouble and Bowie’s lowball offer for SRV’s touring fees…
