Doper Help for Movie Recommendations Needed

Waking Ned Devine

Have you seen Leon: The Professional?

Have you seen “Ever After”? Drew Barrymore, retelling of Cinderella. It’s probably one of my absolute favorite romantic comedies. Special guest appearance by Leonardo da Vinci! “Shakespeare in Love” is another of my favorite romantic comedies.

How about “The Magdalene Sisters”? It is in no wise light, but it’s a really good movie. The opening scene where the priest is singing at the wedding is amazing.

You might also like “Billy Elliot.” Boy ballet dancer, father disapproves. Funny, heart-touching. (Really.) “The Secret of Roan Inish” might be up your alley, too. And “Saving Grace,” which is about an English gardener who grows pot in her greenhouse to save herself from financial ruin. If you like that, you might like “Little Voice” and “Brassed Off,” early offerings from Ewan McGregor. There’s also “Down with Love,” which I found very entertaining and very cheesy. You also might like “The Dish,” which is the story about the satellite dish in Australia that received the video feed from the first moonwalk.

Couldn’t find this on Blockbuster.com. Can you maybe give me a brief overview so that, if I stumble across it somewhere, I’ll know if it’s something I may like?

Miss Purl, I’ve not seen Ever After. Might add that one. I have seen Down With Love (after reading the book, which was literary Cool Whip, but good Cool Whip, y’know?). I agree with you completely about the movie, too.
