Anybody else on a diet or trying to lose weight? Well I started on the 26th right after X-Mas. When I started I weighed 261, today I’m at 246. My goal is 190, but I’ll be extremely happy at 200lbs. Anybody want to share?
I was at 205 before Thanksgiving, now I’m around 190. I’m shooting for 175. In the mean-time, I’ve quit smoking, which doesn’t help weight loss a single tiny freakin bit. I’m still shootin for 175, though. April 15.
Good luck, Stuffy!
Well, I’ve mentioned this in other threads, but here goes…
I’m currently on WW. I started in July 2002 at 247.2. Last night I weighed in at 183.6. That’s a loss of 63.6 lbs. I’m hoping to get down to about 160.
Zev Steinhardt
210 pre-pregnancy.
190 post-pregnancy. (yeah, I’m weird)
Then back up to 205.
Now, 190.
I’m 5’3.
I have decided to quit refined sugar. I haven’t had sweets in about a month, except for some sicky food (like jello) when I had the terrible horrible stomach flu.
I haven’t been able to exercise much because of some post-partum recovery issues, but I am feeling better now, and can start exercising, provided I’m careful about it.
Among the things that I am already doing pretty successfully:
- No sweets (I’m definitely a sugar addict. Recovering.
)
- Eating breakfast every day.
- Eating protein with every meal. (Important for me to feel satisfied and stay satisfied. YMMV)
- Not letting myself get too starvingly hungry. (Leads to terrible blood sugar crashes and overeating.)
- Eating lots fruits and vegetables.
- Eating lots of whole grains and beans and fiber.
Things that I’m doing pretty well at, but need improvement:
- Not eating between meals (except for a snack as needed. I tend to “graze” if I’m not careful.)
- Less refined flour.
- Meal planning.
Things that I need to start with:
- Exercise (started today actually)
- Cutting down on cheese and butter. (I’ll still eat them, but I’m using too much at this point.)
- Better portion control. (I seem to always get seconds and thirds. Ideally, I’d like to load up a plate, with a lot of food if I’m really hungry, and less food if I’m not so hungry, and just eat that plate of food. That’ll take some sheer willpower, I think.)
Anyway, I think that if I follow the plan above, I should continue to lose weight at a reasonable pace and even improve my health. My is to get to 140. At that point, I’d be a bit “thick,” but not really overweight, given my stocky build. Once I reach 140, I might decide to lose more, but I’m not going to worry about that right now.
Good luck, everbody.
My doctor has been telling me to lose weight since last year, but it was only recently that I got serious about it. I was tired of feeling tired all the time. Well, I’m not doing any programs, the biggest changes Ive made are:
Stopped eating fast food for lunch, now I either bring a lunch, or get a deli sandwich, either chicken breast or turkey. No white breads.
Exercising regualry. I walk Lake Merritt on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and I hike the trails on Saturday and Sunday.
Oh and after I read an article that suggested it, I’ve started having a dairy product with most of my meals, either cottage cheese of yogurt.
Goog luck everyone.
I started WW online two weeks ago. Started at 154, currently 146 and aiming for 120 or thereabouts.
Green Bean, I have to admit, I’m shocked. I totally thought you were around my weight. You definitely wear it well
I’ve been pretty good about exercise the past couple of weeks, but because I’ve run out of ventolin (I have exercise induced asthma) and can’t seem to get my doctor on the phone, I’m feeling a bit frustrated but having to skip it.
I’m still here and I’m still struggling with my weight issue. In the last Dieting Doper threads I had dropped from 300+ down to just over 260. I’m now at about 270 (haven’t weighed for a couple of weeks) and need to get back to being serious about watching my diet.
Congrats to all of you headed in the right direction.
If I can figure out how to do it, I’m planning on losing another 50 lbs before my wedding in September. At the moment, I’m at
207. I’d lost abouy 20 lbs when I moved to Philly, but now I’m stalled.
Add me to the support group. I realistically have more than 150lb to lose but don’t want to do surgery. I need to be more consistent about making lunches and making something good for dinner. LadyLion works late evenings so I get most of the weekday cooking. Should start going to the gym a few days a week and taking the pooch on longer walks as he’s put on a few pounds since being denutted. My mom has had good luck on sugerbusters and it sounds sensible and decidely non-gimicky so I’ll start that.
I was 194 on December 26. I’m 185.5 now. Trying to get to 150 initially, then I’ll reevaluate to see if I need to go to 140.
I’m doing low carb, so what I eat is pretty strictly regulated. I’m going to add some nuts and berries next time I go to the grocery store (which’ll be soon. I’m down to almost no meat and veggies in the house) to slowly increase my carb intake.
My only real problem lately has been sugar free candy. I need to cut back on it since I stepped on the scale today and noticed a 1.5 lb gain instead of a loss. I also need to drink more water. Exercise level is fine. Eating between meals is rare (except for the aforementioned candy) because I get plenty of protein with each meal.
My wife (who’s not a poster) and I started our diet on Saturday (1/18). We’re starting off with Atkins for 2-3 weeks just to get a jump-start on the weight loss, then switching to probably something a lot like what Green Bean is doing.
My wife will shoot me if I share her numbers, so I’ll stick with my own: started at 194, and would ideally like to get to 172. Right now, I’m at 189. (That’s why we started with Atkins. My wife can’t deal with a heavy protein diet for very long, but it does tend to take the first several pounds off in a big hurry.)
I need to start exercising, but this winter’s been cold, which discourages me from running. I may have to resort to calisthenics in the basement.
I’m not really trying to lose weight, but I am trying to lose fat. Naturally, I will lose weight as a result. I eat well, exercise, and get plenty of rest, and it’s definitely paying off.
Hi, new here, so sorry if I’m butting in! I started a self designed diet on October 16, 2002 and have lost 14 pounds so far. I want to lose a lot more! I designed my own because Doctors or no one could do anything for me. For myself, I have to stay away from carbs and of course burn off more than I’m taking in. I get obsessed with exercise and I’ve had every eating disorder under the sun. I’m excited though because this time it’s FINALLY working! I also quit smoking on May 15, 2002 after 20+ years of over two packs a day. My life’s taken a 360 since May and I’m very excited about all of it!
Wow Stuffy, seems I was beat to this thread by a long shot.
Stuffy and I were discussing this earlier.
A year ago I was at 210 and now I am 155!
I’ve cut back my soda but I have misbehaved a bit by using stacker2.
Only on weekends when I work and am my most active. I run around my department for twelve hours a night for three nights running.
Yay to Stuffy and all the other dopers fighting the battle of the bulge!
You guys are stronger than me doing it without aid and my hat is off to you!
Don’t be disheartened by small fluctuations on the scale. Even a glass of water can make you way a pound more! I always just pay attention to how my clothes are fitting, obsessively weighing myself is just too depressing.
