Well, to be fair, you’re also doing a boatload of assuming - you’re assuming that TPTB care, that they’re competent, and that they’re addressing the issues in a timely matter. I’ve seen no evidence of that in my years here.
I *have *seen evidence of excuses, delays, dodging of responsibility, changing of features without commensurate changes in fees and outright rudeness from at least one Administrator when honest questions are asked about board operation.
I understand their reasons. Yes, there are more important things to worry about. Yes, I can well afford the membership fee. That doesn’t change the fact that this board has had ongoing server issues for EVER. In other threads, it’s been mentioned SDMB is about *two years behind * on updates for vBulletin. That tells me that SDMB is not a priority for TPTB, yet they are more than happy to collect our membership fees.
We have paid money for a service. We are getting substandard service. If you substitute “Brighthouse” or “Verizon” for “SDMB” I don’t think you be quite so forgiving.
What are you getting in exchange for so enthusiastically giving “the powers that be” a public rimjob, Lobsang?

Look if poeple have paid more attention than me and they have seen that TPTB are truly neglectful and money-grabbing or whatever then I’ll take their word for it.

And I mean genuinelly upset. I often post about mundane things because it’s fun to do so, some people seem to like it.
I’m not angry. I’m fed up.
I’ve stood by quietly as time and time again the board has had server issues. I’ve accepted it as part and parcel of being part of a popular message board.
But it is increasingly obvious to me that TPTB (Creative Loafing?) does not consider SDMB a high priority. Oh, they’ll take our money, but keep the board up and running?
I am tired of being told that the problem is being addressed, that changes are in the works, that things will be resolved shortly. After awhile it becomes a case of “Go on, pull the other one.”
Exactly how long do they expect us to “be patient?”
With regard to my posting and using the board it’s a problem. I’m not ranting to my workmates or family members about it but WTF, the problems with the board and people are compaining on the board about it.
Where’s the problem here?
For me the board works often enough that I can lurk during quiet times at work (where most other sites are blocked) and that makes the yearly fee worth it (at least until things get worse)
If anybody feels it isn’t worth it then there’s nothing stopping them from not renewing their subscription.
It’s sad, but in today’s world it’s easier to just stop paying for something you are disappoionted with than it is to actually complain until it’s sorted.
If people should stop complaining, then wouldn’t it follow that you should not complain about their complaining?

(Or maybe it’s sort of ok to complain about complaining… fight fire with fire you know?. Maybe inappropriate complaining is more worth complaining about than the thing that is being complained about)

No shit. The mods have been telling us that for years. If I’m not mistaken, that’s part of the reason the board went pay-to-post in the first place–because TPTB doesn’t give a flying fuck about this place and would happily shut it down unless it brought in some revenue. It would be nice if they did show us a little attention (a sticky telling us what the fuck is going on–posted before people start bitching–would be nice) but aside from that, I don’t expect them to do more than throw us the occasional bone.

Some people use the board to post “fun” and mundane things. That’s what they get out of it. Others use it to vent. That’s what they get out of it. There are appropriate places for both. What exactly is your damage such that you are having difficulty in grasping that after all of these years.
