Not trying to rain on the parade here, but you’ve been in your current house only a few months and you’re thinking of moving again? Based on that, I’d think long and hard about what your needs and desires really are in a house (necessarily including your wife’s opinions) before pulling the trigger again. If you do your homework, you really shouldn’t hate a house that soon after moving in.
That said, my sincere wishes for good luck in finding a house you both love. Buying a house and moving are such a PITA that I hope you find the right place so you can avoid further buyer’s remorse and enjoy it once you get there.
I was going to say something similar - it doesn’t matter what we think of the houses - what matters is what is important to you and your wife. You’ve had a few houses, it sounds like - I would imagine that each house had its good things that you liked, and its bad things that you don’t want again. Maybe you and your wife need to sit down and figure out a list of must haves, would likes, and no friggin’ ways.
This too.
(An aside - dear God, the prices! Those houses would be damned near a million dollars each here!)
Academy has the most character. But I don’t know what it is about your current home that your wife doesn’t like. I agree with above posts; sit down together and decide what you all really want and don’t want. It’s possible that that could be incorporated into the house you have now. But if not, I like the one on Academy.
You JUST bought your current house and the Mrs. hates it. I’m assuming that before you bought the house, both of you loved it. What changed? How long did it take you to buy your current house and did you two put any thought into it? (I’m in the process of buying a house myself so I’m genuinely curious, not hatin’ on you at all.)
Is the real estate market THAT hot in your area? Would you be buying another house before selling your current one or would you have to sell this one before buying? If you area is anything like most of the country you might be waiting a looooooong time to sell.
Just curious. You might be living in a boomtown for all I know
We got transferred down here and the action was forced on us. Honestly, we should have taken more time but we were only given four weeks to move. It was a less-than-fun experience.
We like older homes but there weren’t any available in a range we wanted to pay. The current house is in a development and it’s cookie cutter. Feh. It’s boring and cheaply made. We got it cheap, though. It was a foreclosure that had been empty for 3+ years and we got it at 50% of its previous sales price. So I suppose it has that going for it.
So I’m attempting to surprise Lady Chance with a new one. I’ll only make the offer contingent. But I’m looking seriously about it.
The last time we moved we doubled our sq. footage and I’ve never regretted that. So from that perspective and the fact the lot is an acre I’d lean towards Academy.
One thing that crosses my mind and I’m not sure if this can be done or not but sometimes when a house goes on the market and doesn’t sell within a certain period of time, a homeowner will take it off for a couple of months and then put it back on as a new listing. I wonder if there’s any way a realtor can help you find some additional homes for consideration that, while not on the market right now, were recently and the owner would like to sell.
I’m sure she can. And while we haven’t discussed that we have discussed some games that have been played, here. The Academy Lane house, for example, says it’s been listed for about 3 months. But it’s been switched around for a while and it’s more like 2 years that it’s been available. The owner lives in a huge place next door and is willing to owner-finance. That would be an interesting option.
Carson has been available for more than a year. But Ruth is an actual new listing.
You know your wife better than we do, of course, but the last thing in the world I want is to be surprised with a new house. I LOVE looking for houses - to have that taken away would make me very sad.
Euphonious Polemic - This 180 year old historical house was just auctioned today near me for $150K for hte house and 5 acres. An additional $50K bought 14 acres.
I wasn’t in the Charleston area during the housing crash. I spent that in post-factory small town Ohio. Which was, of course, SO much better.
But when we looked at houses earlier this year three quarters of the ones our realtor showed us were in foreclosure. And two of them were new building! We got the place we have (that I want to drop) for less than 50% of it’s 2008 price.
