Uh oh, looks like we’ve got a tie for 87.
- Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence
Uh oh, looks like we’ve got a tie for 87.
86 (or 85). The Replacements, “Hold My Life”
83 (I think). Love and Rockets – No New Tale to Tell
85 Joy Division “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
No way! 85 is far too low. And then, in a shameless piece of hypocrisy
84 Tom Waits, “Rain Dogs”
(I always thought Your Joey Ramone would be a great username.)
This 24 yeard old song just squeaks into the 25 year time limit:
“Driver’s Seat” - Sniff ‘n’ the Tears from 1979
A good, solid rock song that at a time when disco was starting its death throes, pretty much delivered a coup de grace !!!
vl_mungo,
As I stated in my OP, this list isn’t in order of preference. It’s just a collection of the hundred best.
Hüsker Düde, I strike “Marquee Moon”, as it dates from 1977. This list is for 1978-2003.

I guess I just gotta read those OP’s a bit more closely… me idiot. BTW great list on your site Lisa-go-Blind…
What? No Ramones?
76) The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
#74 The Pernice Brothers – “Working Girls (Sunlight Shines).”
OK, I could have picked from a lot of PB songs, but it’s the one that drew me to the band in the first place.
I haven’t seen anything by The Smiths yet (hint, hint…)
witchwendy, “Blitzkrieg Bop” is from 1976, two years too early.
Update:
(Yes, I’m bypassing the more widely known “Ana Ng” and “Birdhouse in Your Soul.”)
Since two members of my musical Holy Trinity, The Replacements and Husker Du, appear to be well-represented, I had better make sure that the third member, Superchunk, also makes it there. So …
And as far as choosing “Wave of Mutilation,” are we thinking the version on “Doolittle” or the UK Surf version, which is amazing in its own right?
