As many of you know,VH1 is airing their countdown of the “100 Greatest Songs of the Past 25 Years” this week. I have been compiling my own list of the 100 Greatest Alternative songs of the past 25 years, and I thought it would be fun if we Dopers made our own list. We’re counting backwards from 100, but the songs themselves are not ranked in any order of importance.

Rules:
One per post.
No double-posting.
No “this is a song I made up” :stuck_out_tongue:
I (Lisa-go-Blind) can come up with any other rules at any time (I’ll try not to abuse my power :))

All right, this is a Finnish song by a Finnish band and no-one’s likely to know it unless they’re Finnish, but I just have to get it in:

  1. CMX - Ainomieli

Damn, there would be so much more CMX (perhaps Finland’s premier alternative band, comparable to the Pixies in quality, influence and at least partially in style) to nominate, but this’ll have to suffice…

And it’s gotta be Ainomieli '97, not the version off Aurinko.

Man, it’s hard to do these high numbers… the songs that leap immediately to mind aren’t my “91st favorite song of the last 25 years”. But anyway, enough windging (sp?)… and the envelope please

By the way Lisa-go-Blind your original top #100 list is excellent. Kudos for having two Mission of Burma songs on it.
