Doper's opinions of Dr. Gonzo

I should state by bias straight away, think the Chap was cursed/blessed with a unique genius.
His writing still pulls me up short and reminds me how much, esp. since Chris Hitchen’s death, we need his kind of no-holds barred analysis.
What would they have said of China and Russia’s veto of the UN vote on Syria.
Do we have any ‘publish and be dammed’ journalists left?

I am not nearly witty enough to write a reply to the OP that it deserves. I love HST and am still a little bitter that I only discovered his work about 2 years before his departure.

I don’t know how to put it without sounding cheesy but the world is a poorer place without his unique voice. I would love to get his take on any number of current events - the GOP candidates, the NDAA, SOPA…

I know that there are other more eloquent Dopers who enjoy HST so I am hoping that my lame little reply will bump your thread so they can see it.

Yeah, it is really a shame that he died before the Tea Party and the bizarre brand of conservatism that emerged after Obama’s election. I truly feel as though our political climate in America is more ridiculous than it has ever been in the past, and Thompson would have really had a field day with it.
