Some varieties of daylily spread from the roots and sprout new daylilies. Some do not. If your daylilies that you got from your neighbor didn’t spread out and take over her yard, yours won’t either.
You are correct that weeds are not neccessarily ugly. But the definition of weed is not a plant that grows aggressively. It is a plant that is growing were it is not valued or wanted.
I have a lawn full of dandilions and wild onion. They are not weeds as they are wanted right where they are in my lawn. My neighbor also has dandilions. He hates them. In his lawn, they are weeds.
