Dopers who played an instrument AND a sport in HS

When you went to college, which if any, did you stick with?

I played violin and was on the swim team in high school. I did (Division III) swimming and diving in college. I have very rarely picked up my violin since HS.

I did different sports in college. (normal in HS - e.g. track vs. weird in college - fencing)
Couldn’t justify transporting the bass violin to college.

Basketball & Baseball in high school and played violin in the school orchestra. I started violin in 5th grade. I didn’t try out for school sports until 8th grade,

College orchestra required auditions and I doubt that I was talented enough to join. I had lost interest in the violin anyway.

I did play baseball throughout college. Also, two years of basketball.

IIRC weren’t you required to be a Music Major or at least a Minor to play in a college band or choir?

I never really looked into it, but it seemed like the College choir was mostly music majors. I went to a few recitals in the Fine Arts building theater. Pirates of Penzance is really fun to watch.

Oh crap, I chose the wrong one. I swam and played in the band in high school. I didn’t swim in college because I was told I wasn’t fast enough. It was a Division III school without a full team.

I played guitar and lettered in bowling. I still bowl and play the guitar, 45+ years later.

Soccer and trombone, bass clarinet in high school. I have neither played an instrument or played soccer since high school.

I don’t know how to answer.

I was a 4 sport letterman in HS, but didn’t have the skills to compete in college. But I still played inter-mural hockey. Does that count?

Also - no major/minor requirement to be in band/choir where I went to college. I was a music major, and most in the band/choir were also music students. But there were plenty of other majors as well.

I never owned a bass violin, just used the school’s, so that ended when high school ended.

I also didn’t have a wrestling team to manage anymore (I’m counting that as “playing” a sport, okay? I went to all the practices and meets. And lettered in it.)

I misread and voted “neither” because I don’t really keep up with either now.

But I did play the French horn/mellophone in HS and most of the way through college, but didn’t keep up from HS tennis.

I played hockey, football, and ran track in high school. I also played the trombone. When I went to college I briefly considered majoring in trombone performance. But, I ended up not and actually didn’t play at all. I picked up the guitar instead. I continued to play hockey throughout college.

Soccer and trumpet. I wasn’t really good enough at either to continue, but I did play intramural soccer for a few years.

If you were a guy, you couldn’t do that at my school. Band and male athletics were both first period so they could start early. You had to decide between athletics and band before going to high school.

Women’s athletics was last period, and would last past the end of school. Still, the amount of work involved meant that we never had any women who actually stuck with both throughout their entire high school career. I can only think of one girl who even tried.

Played several instruments (badly) and played football.
