Dopers who've switched from PC to Mac: How difficult was the transition?

The OP might find the tutorial on the Mac home-page helpful: PC to Mac: The Basics.

Much of what I would say has been said. Very much Chronos’ opinions as above. I swore I’d never use Mac because I liked control of the operating system and being able to get under the hood. Once Apple changed to OSX, my prejudices didn’t hold water any more.

  1. There was no hassle in changing over. Barely noticed it, other than the delete key working the ‘wrong’ way.

  2. I oscillate between Macs at home and a PC at uni. Transfer files all the time. Had no hassle transferring my original mass of data.

  3. So glad I switched. There is always a sense of using quality, which I never had with PCs. Viruses are ***SO ***much less an issue. I can do everything I used to do (except DOS based Fractint for drawing fractals). The file handling also seems much easier. Just details like always being able to add new folders wherever you are. That may be a matter of me now being out of date with PCs, or just a better installation on my Mac than the PC at work, but I find the file management on the PC much less intuitive than the Mac. Given I am working with lots of file types and need to keep everything really well organised, that is important to me.

No way would I go back to a PC or Windows - unless things change radically as they did when Apple added OSX.
