Dopers with an early join date but low post count

That’s so funny - I have never noticed scabpicker’s post count. He hangs out and posts to music and guitar threads all the time. I would never have thought of him as fitting this criteria…

Reasons I rarely contribute:

  1. What I wanted to say has already been said.

  2. I prefer the give and take of live conversation.

  3. Too many people here jump all over you if you make a mistake. :smack:

  4. I’m not good at reproducing my snarky tone in writing.

Like others have said, I’d really rather read than post. And I pay for the membership because I consider the knowledge and entertainment I get from you guys very valuable. Most things I’d type have already been said better than I could, and I have a difficult time effectively communicating my thoughts/feelings/ideas in print anyway. I’m actually a knowledgeable and charming guy; a hit at dinner parties… but oftentimes, I come in here and feel like a bumbling idiot!

Hi, my name is Little Nemo and I used to suffer from LPCS - Low Post Count Sydrome. I spoke to my doctor and he recommended Knowital. Knowital is a revolutionary medication that lets you post in all kinds of threads without worrying if you have any actual information on the topic. Since I started taking Knowital, I’ve been able to post in dozens of threads every day despite having virtually no qualifications to do so.

As your doctor if Knowital is right for you.

I only post to keep my “posts per day” at exactly .666.

I prefer to read rather than post.

Yes, as others have pointed out, the irony is that this is the sort of situation which means I don’t post a lot. Others have said exactly what I would have said. The only way this could have been a more apt example would be if we’ve already gone over the second page (I have my view posts per page set to the maximum).

In real life I talk a lot. Here I mostly read. Occasionally I may add something to the discussions, and I have tonnes of questions and discussions I’d like to start threads with. However, I don’t want to be the sort of person who starts a bunch of threads rather than contributing to others, so I’m rationing them over the years :D.

I’ve often thought how strange it is that I ‘know’ so many of you so much better than you know me. I lurk here a lot - I mean, pretty much every day - and I know a lot of you. But it isn’t a mutual thing. It’s kind of like being famous, I suppose. You’re all famous!

I may have the record. The few times I have posted my low count has been remarked upon. I read the board all the time. When something interesting pops up in the news I usually check here first. There’s a lot of valuable insight and knowledge here. I’m rarely the first to see a post and I don’t think it contributes anything to simply add a “me too” post.

I pay for membership because this board adds a lot to my life so I want to contribute in keeping it afloat.

This is totally fascinating. You all sound like nice folks. I feel a bit like an idiot now for posting as much as I do

And Pasta - ***dude ***- I worship at the feet of your physics posts! I demand that you get less busy at work!

I am very much a lurker. Half of my post are probably in threads like this one.

Me too! 21st post brings my daily average up to 0.0045

Let’s see, I joined in January 2005 after lurking for years, and since then I’ve only made 137 posts … so I think I qualify.

In addition to avoiding the whole “me too” thing mentioned by others, I have to add that I do most of my lurking on my smartphone, and I hate typing on that tiny little screen. Often I’ll get an idea to post when I get to a computer with a real keyboard, but by then I’ll have forgotten it, or someone else posted it already.

It doesn’t help that as a bookkeeper, my professional life stories come in two categories … either boring as hell and easily Google-able or highly confidential. My personal life is much the same.

Had to quote this, as it made me laugh so hard I almost needed to change my pants. Bravo Little Nemo, Bravo. This kind of stuff is what keeps me lurking on.

This feels weird. It’s like all the paintings suddenly began talking.

December 2000, 645 posts - is that low? I don’t post just to say “me too” or if there’s already three or more pages.

Awwww :o

Well, for years I kept mostly to Great Debates, and I mostly lurked. Generally what I wanted to say was already said, and timidity/lack of knowledge kept my post count low. On top of that, I seemed to have a knack for killing threads. If I posted in a thread, it was often the last post in it. I have no idea if there was a reason for this phenomenon, but I didn’t like it. Since I wanted more stuff to read, it seemed counterproductive to post. So, I don’t think I posted much before 2010 or so. My post count was probably less than 100 then.

I’m not sure what drew me out into the other Forums, or what made me avoid them before. Whatever the cause, I found that people were talking about things that interested me even more in Cafe Society, and I knew a thing or two about the subjects. Even better, when I replied to a thread, it didn’t seem to die like it would in Great Debates. Sometimes people would even explicitly agree or disagree with me. It was wonderful. As a result, I started posting a lot. This is probably the period WordMan probably got his impression of me from.

I still read wayyyyyy more than I post, and I’ve probably composed and ditched at least as many posts as I have completed (trust me, I have deprived you of nothing). I read the Dope for breakfast and a nightcap, at least. As long as there are smart people arguing here, and paying lets me read ad-free, I’ll keep re-upping.

I would never expect a non response like " good point" or “LOL” on this board, but it is ironic that I’ve been quoted more in this thread than any other time.I think I was just lucky to get here first.

I’m not an expert on anything so don’t expect to ever see me swoop in to save the day!

I’m curious what others would consider a low post count. I’ve been a member for a little over 9 years but my average is less than a post per day.

I realize there are others with far fewer posts and much earlier join dates and those who have only been around for a year or two with higher post counts so I wonder what the perception is for those who have post counts in the high 4 or 5 figures.

I’m shy.

I have had a lot of problems with my login repeatedly getting lost. But I think (I hope) it’s settled now.

I thought I had a low post count/month year joined ratio. After reading this thread I found out I have to give back the sooper sekret award I was given. I’m not even close to longest member with lowest post count. I am devastated. I may never post again. WOE,WOE is me. Just so you know any awards will be licked by me prior to return. Just because I’m really not a good loser. I am going to pout now. I hope you’re all happy!:frowning:
