I’m fairly active on the Dope, having been to a few Dopefests and part of the fantasy football leagues. I post only when I have something unique to say. I wonder which side of the line I fall on?

I just don’t have that much to say. The other factor is that I think you should read the entire thread before you post to it. People were quoting the 9th Annual Young Comedians Special in the Stupid Republican Ideas thread, and by the time I wanted post my Rita Rudner quote (Holding up an imaginary hanger, “‘This would look much better on.’ On what? On fire?”), 103 more posts had gone by. I figured the moment had passed.

Every time I feel that I have something worthwhile to add, someone has already addressed it, usually better than I could. So…I’m here in spirit

I’d have to change my name if I was to be more visible.

Actually I was more talkative under a different name but an offline friend who always lurked here had a psychotic break and started reading things into my posts and it became extremely difficult. Tuba Diva kindly allowed me a do-over in 2002 after which I had to be careful not to show myself to the disturbed one who was combing these and other boards looking for my secret messages. It was a tad off putting, lurking is easier.

I actually find myself posting less as the years goes by. Mainly I think due to the same topics coming up and me not feeling like sharing my same stories only to be ignored again.

It’s already been said. But you asked. Somebody gives a great answer and the only thing I can add is “ditto.”

Like many of the very low numbers (39) I came over from the old AOL board. Did more posting back then because there was a crowd (Satan and Opal come to mind) who would say something that made you want to shoot back. God, remember Melingate?

Actually, that join date is a bit misleading, because I lurked on AOL. I believe I started reading in 1998. It took me 3 years to get up the courage to actually post, and it killed the thread. It took me 8 years to post again. Now that I am retired from active duty, I have more time to read and post, but I know that my knowledge base is much lower than many people here. I love reading, and learning from, all of the top posters here.

I started reading the Dope in 1999, but didn’t get into the forums until 2000. Then, as now, I was largely a lurker, and loved learning as much as I could in GQ and GD. My reading habits have definitely changed though. I spend less time in GQ and GD, and more in CS and IMHO.

I think I just ran out of things to say. Like many, I don’t see a point in posting when someone has already expressed my opinion or answered a technical question. In GD, I am usually trying to get to the end of the thread before posting, and then run out of time or interest. When I do post, I somehow kill the thread or get ignored, so I’ve lost motivation there too.

I have to say, I used to donate, but I haven’t gotten a solicitation in I don’t know how long, I’ve forgotten how to do it. I did just look it up though, so I see that I have to renew in June!

I have writing anxiety.

I read the board as often as I can but I don’t really feel that I know enough or have enough time to be a regular poster.

Damn. I had no idea I was being judged. :frowning:

I don’t use my own computer- I use my boyfriend’s- and I’m a pretty private person, so I always clear all my history/cookies/everything else before I get off the internet. Consequently, this site doesn’t save my login.

Thank you for the answer, Teaira. Someone up thread reminded me the saving is done via a cookie, which I had forgotten.
I wonder about myself sometimes. It took me asking a silly question about the post counters in ATMB to remember how web pages are served out, populated from databases.

Come to Topeka(:D) and I’ll take you to my favorite pizza place! Too bad it’s so close to where I live, that makes it all the more tempting!

+1000

That pretty much says it all for me, although I did post a thread of my very own recently. Got some decent responses and was grateful. This is a great board and community.

Well shit, I’m never going to qualify. I just know that somewhere, someone on this board is actively and privately hoarding their posts in order to attain some kind of “longest active member/least amount of posts” award.

I also don’t understand those of you whom claim that you feel ignored when you do in fact post. That’s not an issue I see here much. Not every post is going to generate a response.

I just noticed a poster in the BBQ Pit with a join date of November 2000, and a post count of 371. A Charter Member too!
