Right shoulder blade. A snowman with a golden retriever pup. Mr.stretch already has a very simple snowman tattoo on his lower abdomen. I want a slightly more detailed snowman with a puppy.
A life-sized tattoo of myself, only taller.
Hehe. Or perhaps "amemus, rumoresque senum seueriorum omnes unius aestimemus assis! "
Penrose triangle on the shoulder - I am still planning on getting this.
Ooo. No, the actual ring, itself, tattooed around your finger. I don’t even know if it can be done, but that’d be awesome.
I’ve thought about getting inked for years but there was never anything i was that wedded to that it was worthwhile, except my wife, and she is pretty much anti-tat.
However, with a baby arriving this June I’m considering a tat w the baby’s name and birthdate done in Mandarin lettering on my right shoulder. I’ve been chatting this one up w the wife and her resistance is lessening.
My fave tat has always been one I saw in a cartoon, Popeye I think, where he had a rowboat tattooed across his chest but when he flexed big it turned into a bad-ass battleship. Funny stuff. Sadly, if I had a similar tat, I’d ‘flex’ the rowboat into some sort of life preserver at best.
I have a surgical scar that runs from my sternum to my crotch. In whimsical moments I have considered having a tattoo that would turn my scar into the long, thorny stem of a rose, with the blossom over my heart. I can’t afford this, but it is an entertaining fantasy.
A little bit of a story involved here.
When I was in Micronesia on an outer island of Yap District (Yap is no longer in Micronesia, I might add) I accidently swam through a school of sharks that were supposed to be feeding. This supposedly makes me eligible for a special tattoo on my legs of stylized porpoises jumping out of waves. It looks sort of like cleanly broken arrows bent up and then down with wavy lines between the halves.
I was all for getting one pair (as opposed to the three that run the length of the leg, that I was entitle to) until I got to the lady who was in charge of doing the tattoo. She was a very old drunk toothless woman, who was doing it with a thin piece of wood with three sewing needles sticking out of it dripping india ink.
I was drunk at the time, but not that drunk.
Since I returned to the states, I have always wanted the tatts I am entitled to, but I can find no examples of them so I can show the tattoo artist.
I’m very, very pale, and I always kind of thought it would be pretty to get a design done in white ink, maybe on the upper arm. I’ve never been able to think of a design I like well enough, though, and I don’t just want to get a generic Celtic something-r-other.
I’m an editor; maybe I should get “Lorem Ipsum”? But it would have to be in Comic Sans.
I want the warrior women symbol somewhere on me. I lost my aunt back in December from breast cancer and I want in Loving Memory of _________ under neath it.
I don’t want a tattoo - but if a crazy tattoo-artist was forcing it on me, then here’s what I want: I want him to tattoo a mask around my eyes - just like Robin used to wear.
I could live with that. Might hurt, but at least it would be original.
I don’t even know if this counts as a tattoo (since it’s not “artistic”), but I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of years.
I would have a line of dots running up the side of my left forefinger. One blue dot every inch and one red dot every centimeter. The dots would be measured from the slightly flattened tip of my finger. It would be somewhat inconspicuous, and I’d never be without a ruler again.
I’m actually considering having that done. But if I were ***forced ** * to get something less practical, I’d have my body parts labeled in 14-point italic times new roman font. “neck” on the side of my neck. “left shoulder” on my left shoulder. “palm” on each of my palms. “ear” on the back of each of my ears. Nothing on the face though.

I would never get a tattoo these days - would upset the family too much. But I have thought about it. I have always been passionate about books and guitars, so I think it would probably be an open book with a guitar in front of it, or some variation of that.
The thing that is interesting is that if you had asked me what kind of guitar it would be, my answer would’ve changed over the years - kind of a scary prospect if it is going to be permanently inked into my skin. That is one big reason I never did it. But now that I have my One True Guitar™ - a Black 50’s style Gibson Les Paul - I know exactly what guitar it would be…here is a pic
I’m not going to, but if I did, I’d have an eye tatooed on the palm of my hand.
And maybe some hair.
I have tattoos but, if I were much more brave, and perhaps significantly dumber, I’d have my body tattooed with the dotted lines & labels you see on the “where your steak comes from” cow diagram. Kind of like this: Link
I do want tattoos. Someday I shall have A) the money and B) the courage to go through with it.
On my right calf, I want this (ideally, a bit more stylized/less ‘blocky’). On the left calf, a nice simple infinity symbol (because infinity is cool). If I’m feeling daring (and wealthy), I’d get something like this on the inside of my right wrist, and an exclamation mark (the previous symbol inverted) on the left wrist.
Someday…
Like a lot of people here, I like the idea of a tattoo, but it’s kind of like choosing a husband: I don’t want to get something I’m going to grow to hate and have to have surgically removed.
I’ve considered a bird of paradise or a rainbow triangle, though.
I always liked the eye of Osirus.
Its so hard to balance meaning and beauty without going overboard into meladramtic, lame and trite.
I doubt it will ever happen but if I did take the plunge, I think it would be cool to get one of Albert Durer’s etchings.
In particular, Durer’s “Knight, Death and Devil” although I don’t even know if that kind of detail is possible in a tatoo.

Please tell me this is because of the Smothers Brothers song… and I’ll love you forever. I still have the album on Vinyl.
*I’ve got a daisy on my toe
It is not real
It does not grow
It’s just a tattoo of a flower
So I’ll look neat
Taking a shower
It’s on the second toe of my left foot
A stem and flower
But there’s no root
(Because that wouldn’t look good!)
A pretty daisy on my toe
My left foot loves
My right foot soo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo…*
