Anyone have any luck removing double faced tape from a wall with flat paint? Goo Gone, Orange Cleaner, Rubbing Alcohol, and nail polish have failed and I really need it off. Thanks in advance if you have any suggestions!
As a remodeler, I can tell you that any method you try will generally not work without leaving marks. The above mentioned products work well, but aren’t really designed for removing stuff from textured walls, as they also screw up the covering.
Scrape it off with a putty knife and repaint/texture as needed.
This must be some gonzo tape if Goo Gone won’t touch it.
I’m assuming you’re stuck (heh) with a thin, probably clear, tape? Did Goo Gone at least get the outward-facing side un-sticky? If so, it works against that particular adhesive. It won’t do diddly against the plastic “core” though. You’d need to get an edge or corner up and get the Goo Gone onto the backside adhesive. It’ll be slow going. Some of the newer acrylic-based adhesives resist everything short of 60-grit sandpaper.
If it’s a flat wall, Klaatu’s suggestion to just scrape it off, then touch up with “spackle” or topping compound, let dry, sand if needed, and paint is probably going to be the quickest. Textured surfaces add the challenge of trying to re-create the texture.
