Doubling up

Hey everyone,
Alicia here, I would like to know if you could get rich by responding to those “If you don’t like our product send it back and we’ll give you double what you paid for it”
I would like to know if you do that enough times will you indeed become rich off of them, and how many times can you do it?
Thank you
Alicia

Well, I doubt that you would become rich by any stretch of the imagination. But in order for the idea to work, you would have to have a different name and address for every time you sent the product back. If you didn’t, I think they would catch on rather quickly. Not to mention that “F” word – FRAUD.

By the way, welcome to the boards.

I don’t see how it’s fraud- if you order it say, fifty times, and you aren’t happy with it the first time, and it’s a consistent product- you’ll probably be unhappy the other 49 times. They would catch on quickly, but what legal way could they refuse to sell it to you? I’m not sure.

Buying it the second time could be proof that you liked it the first time.

I don’t think it worked so well on I Love Lucy.

Luuucy, you haff some s’plaining to do!

The fine print usually has a ‘one per household’ clause or other legal-ese that prevents abuse of the system. It is no different than the flaw they used to have with those “Get 10 records/ tapes for a penny” ads that say you only have to buy X more at regular club prices. You are always free to send back the crappy ‘selection of the month’ which some people do forever to avoid ever having to actually buy one. But you still can’t sign up again in the interim.

Rest assured they’ll first make it hard for you to collect your ‘double money’ and then record that you got it to make sure you aren’t scamming them.

Incidentally in my less proud high school days, we used to send these records/ tapes to a vacant house with a made up name, and then return them to the record stores as ‘gifts’ (thus explaining the lack of a receipt) to get store credit for music we really wanted. Yes, I know I’m going to hell for that one…
