"Down to the Levee" from The Jazz Singer

At the start of the classic Al Jolson film, The Jazz Singer, young Jakie Rabinowitz is in a saloon singing ragtime songs. One is “My Gal Sal.” Another goes, best as I remember, “. . . so take your best pal, your best gal, and go down to the levee, I said down to the levee . . .” And then he stops abruptly because that’s when his father the cantor walks in.

Does anybody know anything more about that second song? I tried a keyword search and found a song called “Down to the Levee” but the words were entirely different.

I think it’s “Waiting for the Robert E. Lee”

hope this helps. You may have to search a bit, but that will make you strong. Go for it.
