Download Accellerator Pro

      • I tried this free plug-in at the suggestion of a site with a dodgy server: they had links to two, and thisis just the one I picked. What it does is make 4 request (or 7, if you pay for it) to the same server, and then assemble the info into only one file for you. As it is, it does work; its most valuable feature is the ability to automatically continue after being interrupted.- even though it don’t do Windows updates… I don’t expect it can go any faster than your last mile, but it’s nice to go as fast as you can. I dunno if it’s all that faster than a normal download setup as it is (using only 4 access requests), but to use the maximum 7, you have to pay thirty bucks. It shows where the server is; for instance, it can access different servers for the same file if need be. I hve not yet decided if the speed improvement of 7 access requests over only 4 is worth $30 or not, but I am curious though, is there any way that a server could “refuse” additional download requests by the same client? - MC

Yes. I don’t remember exactly, but I believe the http spec dictates a maximum of 2 simultaneous requests per client/server pair. I might be wrong, so I’ll look it up when I’m off work to be sure.

getright software from www.getright.com works better for me than DAP.

yes, a server can refuse additional download requests from the same client; actuall it’s more “from the same ip address”. your computer will have a unique ip address and the server will check that when u refuse a download…if the same ip address requests a download again ( like you mention 4 simul. dloads from the same server ) the server can refuse you a connection, depending on what the server admin has used in the setup.

“when you refuse a download” should read “when you request a download”

it’s 4 a.m. here  i’m shouldn’t dope so much

“i’m shouldn’t dope so much” should read “i shouldn’t dope so much”
