Doxie The Dog

My wife and I are going through something similar. 2 years ago we adopted a senior chihuahua schipperke mix, her owner had died and no one in the family wanted the dog. She is one of the happiest and most friendly dogs I have every been around despite some health issues, a collapsed trachea that causes some bad coughing fits and a bad valve in her heart. Recently she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Treatment costs about $1000 a month and the nearest vet that treats this is in Colorado. My wife talked to the vet, he said she should still have 4 to 6 years of quality life without treatment. We are going to giver her the best life possible. She loves our camping trips, especially those to the beach. We will be leaving in a few hours for a week on the Oregon coast so she can find something stinky to roll in.

He’s limping today. Can’t find anything wrong with his paw. Maybe just some dog arthritis or something. He in is high spirits, so it can’t be too bad?

We claim Max has a clock in his stomach. Due to digestive issues (not the clock!) we feed him small meals about every 2.5 hours. He can be dead asleep on the couch and all of a sudden sit up. We’ll ask if he needs to go out…then check the time. It’s nearly to the minute of when he’s due to be fed again.

Front or rear leg issue? I ask because Doxie is a breed that can have spinal problems that affect the rear legs. I’m seriously hoping that’s not the issue.

Been there, done that. IVDD left him paralyzed for about 10 weeks. Got him through it with steroids, bed-rest and lots of hands-on time. Used to have to take him out, hold his ass up by the tail and squeeze out piss and shit with my knees. 4-5 times a day, dark or day, rain or snow.

This is his front right tire. I checked his paw, but can’t find anything. He’s not really excited about me poking around. Jeep Time is rapidly approaching. Let’s see how he does.

That’s a lot of support on your part. I thank you on Doxie’s behalf and I’ll bet he was thanking you too. I hope he has a good walk today.

Well, I had help back then. Now, it’s just me and the dogs. Couldn’t do that again. I’ll update you in about an hour how he does today…
