Dr Phil and child abuse

Based on this story, it seems Dr Phil’s producers more or less said “You’re not abusing your child enough. We can’t put you on the show unless you abuse him more.” Then she did. Then she got on the show. Then Dr Phil beat her up on the show because she abused her child so badly.

How do you figure Dr Phil, a psychologist who is supposed to be all about helping people, rationalizes this? How could anyone ever take that guy seriously?

Dr. Phil is only slightly less ethically challenged than Dr. Mengele was…

Except his lampshades are made out of human psyches

Meh. Any person who’d treat their kids like that just to get on TV deserves everything they get.

Any person who actually wants to get on the Dr. Phil show for any reason deserves everything he or she gets.

Did anyone say she didn’t?

I think you’re missing the point. It’s not about the person ‘deserving everything they get’. It’s about someone who is supposedly bound to an ethical and professional standard skirting those standards and causing innocents (in this case, children) to suffer more harshly than they would have from a lack of that person’s interference.

Wait… Dr. Phil (and I assume others of his ilk) actually has people who videotape themselves abusing children so they can get on his show? And his (or the producers) first response isn’t to send the tape to the local authorities, along with name and contact info?

Jesus fuckin’ Christ. The man should be fired.

Through most of the article I was thinking, OK, this lady’s a wack-job, but I don’t see how Dr. Phil is responsible… Then:

Assholes ought to be charged too.

His license is officially retired so he’s actually no longer a psychologist.

I’m not sure he’s still human.

Oh, that ship sailed decades ago: Phil McGraw - Wikipedia

The issue surely is, that the kid did not deserve it.

If there is anything in these allegations, this thread ought to be in in the pit (and Dr Phil ought to be in the pit of hell).

My mother washed my mouth out with soap one. I wonder if that would qaulify as chld abuse today. But as an adult I can say, I really did deserve it for cussing her out.
