Dr. Phil pulling his punches?

I just watched the Dr. Phil show about couples in finacial trouble. One couple was so over the top ridiculous that I still can’t believe it. They had used all their home equity, around 400,000 dollars to have fancy cars, pay for expensive preschools and camps for the children, add onto their house (a fifth bedroom, they have three kids) and pay for a 80,000 dollar vacation in Hawaii. AND they live near the ocean already.

Dr. Phil gave them the business about the cars and the vacations and the decorative things for their home. He totally ignored that she is a stay-at-home mom who pays for all day preschool and sends all three kids to camp for the entire summer. Her husband says that the camp is so “she doesn’t have to plan for activities for them all summer.” Isn’t that her job? Maybe she should have been told to get a different job since she’s not really doing hers.

I better settle down or I’ll need to move this, but really I’m wondering what’s up with Dr. Phil? I don’t watch his show that much but I’ve never seen him ignore an issue like that. The only reason I like to watch is to see him tell people what they really need to hear.

Personally, I don’t think Dr. Phil should be punching people in the first place.

I think there were too many couples on today’s show. That particular couple could’ve been an entire show to themselves.
I’ve seen him talk to other couples in similar situations lately, and he was more thorough in his talking-to. I just got the impression that he didn’t have enough time to really work those two over the way they needed. Hopefully there was a lot more work done afterward with the financial counselor.
One good thing about having lousy credit is that no one will give me a loan.

Hijack

I just love how Dr.Phil Started out being or at least attempted to be different. He is getting closer to Montel and Jerry Springer. A recent episode (Two part episode at that) had a Polygraph test.

I disagree. I’ve never watched Dr. Phil, but if he started punching people (or dope-slapping them, or kicking them in the ass), I might give him a try.

I saw that. Considering the seriousness of the allegations lodged at that young man (accused of molesting his 2 year-old sister and being a sexual predator in general), I didn’t think the lie detector thing was a bad idea. He had been denying everything up to that point, and the polygraph was the thing that broke him down and allowed him to admit everything and get help. If he could have gotten away with lying about it like he had been up to that point, a lot more girls would have gotten hurt, and he’d still be in the house with the baby sister.

Disclaimer: I was home recovering from surgery. I don’t normally watch this show.

If Cecil and all of us at the SDMB are in the fight against ignorance, Dr. Phil would be the Einstein of asinine.

He’s not sending too-sexy kids to boot camp yet is he?

Maury?

Yea, its me.

That bald prick is ripping your shit off, man!

No not Montel, the other one!

The couple with the money problem need more than financial counselling. Sounds like they have some other problems. (The same meds that put an end to my compulsive over-eating also ended my shopping sprees.)
