Dr Who question: Why does the Doctor care so much about humanity?

I always thought it was much like ‘Starman’…who was a member of a highly evolved/tech race that crashed on Earth…who despised humanity as another brutal, cruel and barbaric race but over time discovered that while humanity was brutal, cruel and barbaric that there was…something…there that the other common races of the galaxy didn’t have. Humanity was potential different and might be able to overcome what dominates all the other races.

I didn’t know that the Timelords looked like humans. I thought he chose to look like a human. If Timelords look human, then it is probably because of that. I prefer the Starman explanation

It’s humans who look like Time Lords.

Why is Jane Goodall so interested in chimpanzees?

They are fascinating creatures who he has gained a fondness for over the years.

We invented jelly babies!

Plus we’re for the most part pretty decent runners. You need to be able to run if you’re hanging with the Doctor.

In an early Tom Baker ep, The Doctor said Humans were his favorite species. Ark in Space maybe. Went on and on about the Human Race’s resiliency, drive, fortitude, whatever …

Although he did mention that the expansion of the human race might have been considered a plague by the species humanity displaced.

Actually, the Doctor doesn’t give a particular damn about humans. But the BBC knows that’s not what its (mostly) human audience wants to hear, so they rewrite all his stories to make the audience feel special and looked-after.
