Draft Dodgers?

Of course I’m “adhering to the letter of the law” in a discussion about breaking the law, i.e. “draft dodging.” If you’re going to be tried for breaking the law, the judge would certainly expect to see the law in question and see evidence that you broke it. Availing oneself of the provisions of the law in question isn’t breaking it–it’s following it!

And, no, I’m not playing “fast and loose” with the definitions.

What a quaint posting. I started a thread about a specific issue and then someone charges in here, completely ignoring the actual topic, all in order to hurl invective.

Color me surprised that got it in return.

Monty
To use your vernacular, I didn’t just charge in here to hurl invective. I did make other postings before I made that “quaint” posting.
Until John Mace posted a link to the thread that “inspired” this thread, it seemed to me that you had just chosen this topic “out of left field”. When someone starts an OP, it would be nice to have a bit of explanation, a link to an originating thread, a cite, etc.

iI thought Hitler and Pearl harbor had something to do with us going into WW2. Thanks for pointing out it was the Dems. We are a war loving country though.

And I would have thought that it was in large part Saddam Hussein that got us into Gulf Wars One and Two. You’d never know that, though, listening to some folks.

I will give you Gulf War I, but what exactly did Saddam do that forced us to invade and occupy Iraq in Gulf War II?

WMD, you silly!

I’m of the opinion that another war with the Hussein regime was pretty much inevitable. It was just a question of when that day would come.

I realize others might not share that opinion, but given what I saw during the 1990s, I’m pretty convinced of it.

You could not get his neighbors to join in because he was a paper tiger. We had emasculated his army and the only people he impacted were Iraqis. They were a threat to nobody. They just had Bushs oil on their land. A stable middle east existed. But Saddam had a tendency to ignore OPEC when he felt like it and produce more than they thought he should. Corporations do not like wild cards. If Kerry was elected ,we would likely have not gone to war. It required an aggressive bonehead repub. administration.

So it is just your gut feeling, and not any specific behavior that justifies invading and occupying a sovereign nation?

First of all, Kerry didn’t even run until the war was well under way.

Secondly, there was military action against Iraq in the Clinton Administration, not only during Operation Desert Fox, but also in response to numerous provocations by Iraqi armed forces in violation of the cease fire. There was also continual violation of the disarmament and verification system that Hussein had agreed to as a condition of the cease fire.

Timeline.

That, and the looming breakdown of the sanctions, was leading to a very dangerous situation.

This is why I believe another war with Iraq was inevitable. Now, like I said, you might not agree, but I have a pretty good reason for believing as I do.

Did you mean Gore?

Fear Itself:

Considering you have now been informed of three errors on your list, do you still wish to claim that the rest of the list is accurate for the discussion we’re having, or would you care to revise or withdraw it?

More than just three. Dennis Hastert had a medical deferment because of a knee problem. And I have by no means gone through the whole list.

I accept the errors as stated. If you have additional revisions, feel free to offer them.

I’ll accept that you seem happy to tell lies as long as others catch them.

Pot. Kettle.

Not even close. Would you care to point out where Mr. Moto posted any inaccuracies in this thread? You posted a lame, inaccurate lie of a cite. I assume it was due to error and not malice. Time for a retraction.

Sure. He was all too happy to cast Bill Clinton as a draft dodger, until the weakness of his argument was pointed out to him, and only then did he offer his stipulation.

Not really. If you look at my original post. I characterized his actions as evading the draft, which is pretty fair, given the extent to which he went to avoid induction.
