Dragonlance movie site mystery

I was reading a thread earlier about the Dragonlance books and wondered if there were fansites about possible movie rumors. I came upon a curious link.

It states that there was a mass suicide among internet Dragonlance fans who are in despair over the movie or rather the ongoing discussion about it. Of course, upon first read I took this as annoying internet hoax type stuff. Then I started clicking onto other sites related to the topic only to find most of the sites were down…this is curious. Now either it’s coincidence, or there is some truth to this matter…if the latter is true then I’m a bit scared that there are people that would just off themselves over something as trivial as this.
Does anyone know anything else about this strange news…please tell me it’s just more internet bullshit. And if someone would be kind enough to try and log onto some sites to see if they work I would be much abliged. I just got a new computer, so I doubt it’s mine that’s acting up. Please help me bring an end to the mystery.

It’s clearly a joke.

A search of usenet and list archives this morning revealed that this question had been brought up 10,000,000,012 separate times in the past five years.

It was a Dragonlance mailing list and the question was asking Dragonlance fans their favorite actors for specific Dragonlance characters, should a Dragonlance movie ever be made. “It was only unfortunate that such a topic should have come up 9,999,999,999 times before,” the WotC spokesperson said.

A temporary ban on the Dragonlance movie topic was imposed on the Dragonlance mailing list yesterday, in an effort to prevent any more long-time list-subscribers from killing themselves. However, analysts say that pressure from other list members pleading the First Amendment will probably cause the ban to be lifted soon, and they fear that the subject’s death toll will rise.

You’d think that a mass suicide by ANY segment of the population would get national media attention, especially for one so trivial as described in the OP. So I’d say it’s just a hoax.

(But, I still find it strange that I can’t log onto a good number of movie rumor sites I found on Google.)
