My intention was a SINGLE main character, as that seems rarer than 2 main characters.
More than 2 is right out.

When I mentioned Columbo and said “his wife”, I meant Peter Falk’s wife, Shera Danese. Mrs. Columbo the character was never shown, on the Columbo series.
Thanks. I misread what you wrote.
Don’t get me started on how misleading the title of The Lone Ranger is.
Run for You Life had Ben Gazzara in 85 episodes. No one else had more than six, and they were not recurring characters, but rather the same actor cast in different roles.
THAT’S the show I was trying to remember. Actually there were two iterations: a 1963-1965 version, and the late 70’s-early 80’s version. The first version ran 48 episodes, with no human appearing in more than three episodes.
Then Came Bronson only had 27 episodes, but Michael Parks (all 27 episodes) is the only actor who was in more than 1 episode. Lots of good guest stars: Bruce Dern, Jack Klugman, Bonnie Bedelia, Will Geer, Dabney Coleman, etc.
27:1, still less than Cannpn
Littlest Hobo (1963-65) 48:2
Littlest Hobo (1979-85) 114:4 (though it looks like one was a two part episode)
If we combine the series (same “actor”, same basic show 162:4 = 40.5:1
(Unless one guest actor played the same character on both shows which I am not going to look for)

High Maintenance has Ben Sinclair as “The Guy” in 34 episodes, with no other actor appearing in more than 4.
However, although they all were credited as “London,” Hobo was actually played by several different dogs in both series.
