Dream Theater's "Master of Puppets"?

I just saw the announcement this morning: Dream Theater is releasing a 2-disc set of demos, a 2-disc live set, and a cover of Metallica’s Master of Puppets. Not the song, mind you–the whole album.

I’m not quite sure what to expect of this. On the one hand, this is Dream Theater we’re talking about. On the other, this is Master of Puppets that we’re talking about. I’ll probably go ahead and order it, but I really can’t expect it to be anything other than respectable.

For those who are interested, all the relevant details are here.

Have you heard the boots of the MoP concert(s)? they don’t specify whether this is an official release of the live stuff, or if it’s a studio recording (which would be kinda lame)…

Cool news though, thanks!

It looks like the Barcelona 2/19/02 show. Hope the sound quality’s better than that crappy bootleg I downloaded two years ago.

And I hope they release their live version of Number of the Beast from the same tour…actually, a compilation of ALL the cover songs they’ve ever done would be nice.

A buddy of mine emailed this to me.

I saw this same release on the Dream Theater WWW site and I am interested. Master is my favorite Metallica album. I would expect it to be similar to the album, maybe a bit heavier or faster, with slightly modified guitar solos. Plus if James is singing the vocals will be very different from the original album.
It may not be better than the original but it will be well performed. Even if you don’t like Dream Theater’s music, I think anyone who has heard them live has to say that they are technically excellent performers, and they have the ability to shift to all different musical genres. They often go off on an improv during the live concert playing Jazzy music, country, or pop during a song.
