Dreaming/Gun Shot/Woke up/Ringing Ears

sometime about 4 am this morning I was deep in Dreamland when someone (in the dream) fired a gun and the resulting noise woke me, startled and groggy. And my ears were ringing, like my ears really did hear the gun shot. It took a couple of hours before the ringing went away.

Seems like a cruel thing for my brain to do. Letting something embedded in my deep subconscious have a real noticeable effect on me. But not really tangible to anyone else.

FWIW, I am 99% sure that there was not a real gun shot. I live alone and there were no intruders in the house.

Most likely you’re ears were already ringing and your brain introduced the gunshot into your dream because of that.

I remember having a dream that my eyes were being superglued shut and woke up with pinkeye (and therefore one of my eyes was covered in gunk and hard to open).

I also remember a friend of mine telling me that she had a dream that she had been bitten in the leg by snake and woke up with a nasty leg cramp.

I think when a pain develops in your body during the night your brain has a way of working it into your dreams as opposed to something you were dreaming manifesting itself as physical pain.

I once had a dream that turned me into a newt!

… I got better.

Exploding Head Syndrome. Much less exciting than it sounds. I originally read about it in a Cracked.com article, said “huh, freaky,” and then it happened to me a couple of weeks ago. People kept asking me why I looked so tired that day, and telling them “because my frickin’ head frickin’ exploded” just brought more questions.

I have had the esplody head deal for at least 10 years, maybe 4 or 5 times a year but I never had ringing in my ears. Just the WHAM! awake thing - very disconcerting if you do not know what it is. I do remember waking mrAru up in a panic over it. When I was living on 13th Bay St in Norfolk we did have bikers living across the street that used to target shoot at the transformers for fun every now and again so there was a good reason to panic over the sound of nearby gunshots.

 Yikes, Exploding head syndrome.

EHS has been mentioned here before and I assume that’s what I had once. I still remember laying in bed just minding my own business when a frickin comet flew right through my head. Yup, a comet came out of the sky and went through my head. Scared the bejesus out of me and it took me forever to fall back asleep. I don’t remember if I was asleep to begin with but I wasn’t dreaming. I remember seeing it approaching and knowing it was going to happen but when it did it was so much louder and brighter then I could have imagined.
I was a bit relieved when I learned about EHS and found out it was actually something real.
