I don’t dream very often, but I’ve noticed that when I sleep someplace other than my own bed, I tend to have (or at least remember) my dreams. For instance, I’m currently on spring break, and without my roommate here, I’ve been sleeping on the couch (where I can do nothing but watch TV and post here). Since Friday night, every time I’ve slept I’ve had fairly lucid dreams. It also seems like, after an adaptation period to a certain bed, I stop having dreams.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this phenomenon? Anyone have any theories what the deal is?
I have a hard time going to sleep in anyplace other than my bed or the guest room at my parents (unless I have been drinking).
That said, I cannot recall if I have remembered more or less dreams in that specific situation.
And isn’t lucid dreaming more about dream control rather than actually remembering it?
Hey, this happens to me too! I’ve never met another person who has this happen to them.
Same thing exactly, I rarely remember any dreaming (though I’m told we all dream), but if I crash on someone’s couch or stay over somewhere very lucid dreams.
I like it, think it’s kind of cool. It doesn’t really happen when I travel though. Months of sleeping on different beds and nothing, but if I go to my friends house and sleep over, dreams galore!
I can’t wait to find out if it happens to others or it’s just us two!
Many people report having more dreams when they sleep in unfamiliar locations. Most of the time this is not because they’re having more REM sleep, because the amount of REM sleep remains relatively steady from night to night. Instead, they’re waking up more during the night, which makes people more likely to remember their dreams. Then, when you get used to the bed you wake up less and stop remembering your dreams.
