Dresden Files 3/4/07

Just once before the series is eventually ended, I want Bob to somehow regain a physical form and kick some serious supernatural butt all the way through an episode.

In the books, Bob can be freed from his skull, but Harry doesn’t release him very often.

“Forget it. The last time I let you out, you invaded a party over at Loyola and set off an orgy.”
“I didn’t do anything to anyone that a keg wouldn’t have done.”

Hey, keep the threads coming - I’m enjoying them!

I liked this one. I agree, more Bob=good. Not that I dislike Harry at all - I think they’ve done a pretty good job all around. And (going from the first two books), they are preserving the noir theme of Harry often wandering around woefully unprepared and without a clue as to what’s truly happening, which I think is good. The problem with writing for wizards is they suffer from Sonic Screwdriver Syndrome, and you have to invent ways to limit their power. So far so good, though I’d like to seem them overtly use the idea that funneling raw magic without preparations, tools, and/or incantations can fry your synapses.

Honestly, my biggest problem is I don’t like Murphy much. I have such a clear picture of her from the books, it’s hard to adjust to the Murphy/Susan hybrid they’ve gone with. But mostly I dislike that she looks really tough. Part of the fun of Murphy is having a short little Kewpie doll kick ass.

That’s something to possibly look forward to then.

Another question about Bob: Can he be seen by whomever he wants to be seen? At first it appeared only supernatural types could see and hear him, but now it seems a normal can see him too, or was the reanimated guy sufficiently supernatural to see and hear Bob?

I’m more curious as to the limits of that bracelet thing Harry is supposed to be wearing, you know, the protection thing?

I think it needs a checkup, or Harry needs to remember to wear it more often.

Just as a total WAG, it seems like he’s perfectly visible to other characters when we the audience see him, but he never actually lets himself be seen around others who shouldn’t know about him. When he is seen, he’s just a bystander; everyone else is focused on Harry. The mundane-turned-demon-turned-mundane and his girlfriend certainly saw him a couple episodes previous, too.

I’d guess that eventually we’ll have a whole list of magical solutions we know work, and wonder why he doesn’t use them again. It’s just the nature of this sort of show, I think.
