Drink Drive Ban Alchohol Test

A friend of mine is coming to the end of a ban for DD in the UK and has been told that he has to pass a blood test before he can get his license back.

Apparently this test measures the levels of certain enzymes in the blood and can supposedly tell how much alcohol has been consumed by the recipient in the past three months.

Has anyone got the dope on this? It sounds a bit implausible to me.

Sounds like EDAC. This is a panel of 20 markers that can be compared with a set of reference results to provide an indication of prior heavy drinking. It is said to provide good indications.

I cannot find any references to Drivers licenses, but a court can impose such conditions, so I don’t doubt your friends story. I hope he hasn’t been drinking.

Further to the above - here is a High Risk Offender chart, detailing the process and tests…

More details from the DVLA here

Looks like it is actually a typical liver function panel plus doctors exam (probably with an alcohol use questionnaire). The Liver panel will show the impact of heavy drinking, but any non-normal results will require further investigation to eliminate other causes. After other causes of liver function impairment are eliminated, drinking will probably be assumed (in conjunction with the doctors assessment of the patient).

Of course, the EDAC test above may have supplanted the liver panel.

Thanks, it looks like it comes under the High Risk Offender Chart, as I recall him saying that he had to pay a fee for the test.

Thank you for your help with this.
