Who makes up these rules, anyway? Is there some Alcohol God who handed down commandments or something? Who decides when it’s “acceptable” to have a drink? By what standard? Is there any rational or objective reason that the time of day per the artificial system of measuring time that we created has any bearing on when alcohol is consumed?
I don’t mean that to sound as rant-ish as it does…I’m just sayin’.
Being at work all day precludes me from having a drink before the evening Monday through Friday. On weekends I’ve been known to have a beer before noon if the coffee runs out.
Any time is a good time, depending on what’s happening during the day.
My nighbour (74 years old) likes to have three beers before nine thirty in the morning…then he doesn’t drink the rest of the day.
I love beer in the morning. Unfortunately, although I love it, my husband would probably have a stroke if he saw me sitting outside having my coffee before work with a beer, not a coffee.
He comes from a fairly reserved family whereas my family starts pretty much every story with 'we were sitting having a few drinks and…".
There isn’t really a “too early” for me either. If I wake up at 6:30 in the morning and feel like a beer, then I’ll have a beer. It could be anytime of the day or night. I don’t drink everyday or even most days.
But, when I start I keep going. If I do start drinking at say 9:30AM or 10:00AM then I am gonna get hammered and stay that way all day and probably well into the night. This usually only happens when I have friends over who obviously don’t have plans to go anywhere else. We may wake up, have breakfast, and then start drinking.
I just can’t understand how someone could have a bloody mary in the morning (awesome hangover remedy, BTW) and then just shut it off. I enjoy the taste of most drinks, but when I do drink, I drink to get drunk. And we all drink hard and fast. Seriously, I just can’t fathom how you can start and then stop. If I start drinking and then try to stop I get the worst headaches.
I will occasionally have a drink at lunch during the week although that is almost always on a Friday about 11:30 am or so. Other than that not before noon, although if I’m fishing, I will start drinking earlier maybe about 10:00 am or so. The only exception is if you have been drinking since midnight the night before, then you can continue to drink reguardless of the hour.
My old roommates and I would just call the box of wine “the wine cow”.
Also, there is no “too early”! And I don’t mean that I drink all day, but that I’ve never set a time for when I feel it is now appropriate to begin drinking. Occasionaly I’ll have a mimosa at a Sunday brunch, but since I rarely brunch, that’s not an issue. Also, usually my mom has Bailey’s in the house on holidays, which makes for a nice cup of morning coffee.
Other than that, the earliest I usually drink is after work, around 6, though I rarely drink during the week for various reasons (mostly time and money). I’ll also gladly drink during barbeques and the like.
Depends on the circumstances. If we are camping in the desert or at Lake Mead, it’s beer with breakfast. Rice Crispies and Coors. If it’s at home during the school year, it’s generally 5pm. Weekends are usually even later, but that is because I’m usually with the kids until 8pm or so, traveling back from tournaments.
Damn now I’m thirsty. It is always noon somewhere.
Working different shifts made for some strange situations or perspectives. Watching the sun come up with your first beer fresh out of work is different than watching the sun come up after a whole bunch of beer on an all night bender.
Some old neighbors of mine must of thought I was a total sot. Me sitting on the patio drinking beer reading the morning paper while they were drinking coffee on their way to work early in the morning.
An alcoholic friend of mine used to pass out, leaving a half quart of beer sitting on his nightstand. When he woke up in the am he would reach for the bottle and chug what was left. My beer would have to be ice cold, and only on vacation do I wake/bake.
my father in law has two beers for breakfast lunch and dinner. And he get’s up early.
Me, I usually don’t start until dinnertime. Odd occaisions I do start early, but it’s rare. For example, I usually watch the super bowl live with my homies, and that means guinness at 6:00 am and drunk as a skunk by 10:00 am. I also take international flights that land on the west coast around 6:00 am (my midnight) and usually get a funny look when I get the bartender to crank up an Anchor Steam.
