When I was a small child, my dad was using a bottle full of gasoline to clean his boat. I took a swig of it and my mother of course freaked and called the doctor, who informed her that it wasn’t a big deal, just to keep an eye on me as it might make me drunk.
Now I know that gasoline contains trace amounts of benzine of which there is no “safe amount”, and probably scores of other carcinogens, but let’s ignore that for now.
If gasoline would have gotten me drunk does that mean my body was able to metabolize it? It’s obviously got a lot of calories stored in it, but could the Donner Party have survived the winter given a tank of gas?
Gasoline is indeed bad for you. It does bad things to your liver. It does bad things to your stomach. It does bad things to your kidneys. It will make you explode (no, I made that up.)
I agree with possum stalker, eat your shoes, DON’T DRINK GASOLINE
Let’s say it one more time and get it out of our system:
Don’t drink gasoline.
I’m asking if our bodies can metabolize it at all, and extract useful calories. How many calories are there in an ounce of gasoline? I drank about a tablespoon and survived when I only weighed probably 30 pounds. People can stave off starvation for quite a while by drinking a few ounces of wine per day.
Given that the only other option is certain death, can people extract calories from gasoline and temporarily stave off starvation, even if they are carted away blind with a failing liver, kidneys, lungs, heart, etc ?
This site details the bodies potential to break down gasoline. Not very effectively, by the way. It is an intoxicant and only a half ounce can kill a child. Your parents should have raced you to the ER and your doctor should have been bitch slapped.
I didn`t see any mention of caloric useage, but it may be in the report somewhere.
