A couple of guys here at work were discussing they’re DUII’s and what percent of alcohol was in their bloodstream. We were wondering, what percent of alcohol would kill you? Here in Oregon, .08 is legal limit. How drunk is .08?
.08 is nothing - light buzz. .2 or better, you’re hammered, and no way should you be driving. .3 or better, I think you can start to really damage yourself - Qagdop will no doubt be here shorty to answer with exacts.
IANAD, but a cursory web search indicates that many sources consider a BAC of .4 to be a “lethal” level of alcohcol poisoning.
Drinking till you cant drink no more doesnt exist where I come from.
We drink ourselves sober usually.
I dont know how beer is served in USA, but here we get pints.
Now, drink more than this…
18 pints of beer(Heineken/Carlsberg) or 20 pints Stout(Guinness)
every second pint with a Whiskey chaser(Jameson usually, but maybe JD, that makes 9 or 10 chasers)
then to the shorts, JD or Smirnoff with coke, maybe 6 or seven of these
And in between, maybe 4 or 5 shots, something like Aftershock, Sambucca, Jagermeister or Goldschlager, or one of each.
I start drinking usually at about 21.00, then finish at about 01.00, thats a good 4 hrs drinkin?
Would this be enough to get me over the .4 limit?
No, but it would be enough to give you breath that would knock a pig off a shit-truck from 50 paces.
GLASS ONION, you do realize that averages nearly 10 drinks an hour? I’d normally call bullshit, but I wouldn’t want to encourage you to even try to prove me wrong. So instead let me just admit: You are a drinker par excellance. When it comes to knocking them back, you da man. No one gets shit-faced like you do. Gold star.
Bravo.
Clap-clap-clap-clap-clap.
Thats something to be real proud of. I can pound back a lot of beer myself, but I never mention it so I can brag or try to get people to break my record.
BTW - I have a feelin’ that your full of shit.
But, If you’re not, you may as well go to your doctor and get put on the waiting list for a liver transplant right now.
I see where this thread is heading in a hurry!
To the OP, to show you what will NOT kill you…
I’m not much on%‘s and stuff so someone can do the math but…I once drank a six pack (at a ‘normal’ pace) then had a drink-off’ with a buddy of mine. 17 margarita’s in about 1 1/2 hrs. I knew the bartender so they were legit. Later that night we drank another 2 sixers each of Schlitz malt liquor each ( we split a case). Now we were young and in our prime and had a pretty rough next day or so but we survived.
Another time I drank 6 qts of Schlitz Malt Liquor in 5 hours. Still here.
FWIW, I don’t drink at all anymore.
Depends on your tolerance. 0.08 is a mild buzz to the seasoned drinker, frighteningly sober the the alcoholic, and severe impairment to the drinking novice, on the average! 0.4 will kill many, but alcoholics have been known to stay conscious and functioning at this level. Overall, it’s a crapshoot, and the outcome reflects more factors than BAC alone.
Back when I was drinking way more than I had any business drinking, I was admitted into detox and blew a .39 on their breathalizer. I had to spend three days there before they released me to friends.
Now, I wouldn’t in a million years say that was an appropriate amount for anyone who isn’t drinking pretty severely, but it is possible to be that high and not drop dead.
In terms of how coherent I was, I was able to talk somewhat reasonably, I hadn’t been cut off from the bar (I knew the bartenders but even they were surprised at how high my BAC registered. I assume they wouldn’t purposely let me get that high without cutting me off.).
The whole reason I ended up in detox was because I decided to walk home and go to sleep rather than stay out with the crowd. On the way home I was swaggering around enough that two university cops stopped and questioned me (They thought I was under-age but nailed me for public intoxication when told them I wanted my I.D. back post haste so I could be on my way. University cops are notorious for being quick to pounce, IMHO.)
At any rate, it’s entirely possible to have a BAC that is considered deadly but in reality isn’t, if your body has grown accustome to such high levels.
BTW- I don’t drink nearly that much any more. I’ve basically become a social drinker these dats. That event, along with some others that I’d rather not go into, made me shape up my act pretty quickly.
One further BTW, right now my BAC is .00. I’m certain of it. How do I know? Well, I just got back from a particularily long bike ride- Not that you’d think I was sober by that last post of mine.
Tallie-ho!
bernse, posted while I was typing so to head off any negative backlash…
Never try this at home (or anywhere)!
I was young and ignorant of alcohol poisioning at the time.
I am not bragging, I know someone will post #'s that show what will theoretically kill you. I was merely stating my experiences. I have since learned of people who have died doing similar things.
I would never, ever do those things again.
Any high schoolers listening - AP is real, dangerous and could and will definatly kill you if you drink too much.
Everyones tolerance is different.
I understand your position, bernse, but there are a lot of things that folks do/have done/mention that could be done on these boards that are dangerous. This is not
the 'Wheaties" box. Some people are not great role models. It’s an information meeting place. Not eveyone can be as holy-as-thou. Take the good with the bad. Your last post should have been taken to the pit.
