Drive a Tesla, get Sieg Heils? Apparently it ain’t easy being green any more

Which doesnt include homes with solar panels. Now, they arent as common in Illinois as CA, but how many EV owners have them?

Coal about 15% in IL.

The first link can find confirming what I’ve see in many other analyses.

If interested I’m sure you can find the ones that break it down by regional power generation mix.

It appears to come from Kia Norway, who ran an ad campaign using it. It has since been removed but will live on as the stickers are being sold from a bunch of places.

Speaking of crazy Elon stickers, I just posted this in another thread:

I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a sticker of Elmo doing his Nazi salute, captioned “I DID THAT!”.

I do.

It’s not silly at all. The fact that the senior Henry Ford was anti-semitic (not to mention violently anti-union) has no relevance to the Ford Motor Company today. The fact that a “car for the people” was Hitler’s pet project had no relevance to the global popularity of the refined VW Beetle and even less relevance to someone buying a VW Tiguan today, and none of those benefited Hitler or the Nazis.

Tesla is a completely different situation. Musk is the CEO and also the largest single shareholder, and his stake in the company is the major source of his obscene wealth. Tesla buyers are directly supporting him both by helping to boost the stock price and enabling extravagant bonuses for him.

It probably did. They were probably in one of the self driving modes.

Somebody poorly drew a swastika on a cybertruck and torched a sedan at the local Tesla dealership. What always sticks out is how poorly people draw swastikas, especially if they’re going for that Third Reich look.

A proper vandal would use a stencil!

In fact with two stencils and some quick-drying paint you could do a proper red circle with a black swastika inside for a real pro Third-Reich look. The problem with making it look too good is that some Tesla owners (and I’m guessing most Cybertruck owners) might be happy to just keep it!

The time to worry is when they get really good at drawing swastikas.

My kid started listening to this song constantly last month. Particularly when we are driving in the Tesla.

Rät by Penelope Scott is a song about falling out of love with Silicon Valley and probably Elon Musk in particular. I’d thought it was new, but it came out four years ago.

I find it a bit clunky as far as protest songs go, but I was raised on the classics. I do like this line though:
(Blurred for swears outside the pit. Do we have to do that?)

So, fuck your tunnels, fuck your cars
Fuck your rockets, fuck your cars again

I can’t find an official video, but this one seems to have the most views.

No, we do not.

Forgive me if someone else has already pointed this out; I’ve only gotten this far in the thread, but many bumper stickers now are magnetic, so you could take it off the car when bringing it in for service.

Oh, and take it off before going through a car wash; I had a magnetic sticker swept off my car once and the attendant who rescued it for me said it happens a lot.

I’m driving a paid-off 2006 Scion xB ICE with about 115,000 miles on it, still getting over 30 MPG in local driving, would have to get an electrician to set up a charging port in my under-townhouse garage if I bought an EV, so even if Teslas didn’t have the Musk stench on the brand I can’t see buying one. Maybe a hybrid, if I had to get another car, but I hope I won’t have to. If I hit the lottery and could afford it I still wouldn’t buy a Tesla, and I wonder whether the brand will ever fully recover its cachet if Musk doesn’t disappear from the headlines soon.

You are the first to mention it but it’s not a bad idea. I highly doubt that the service people care though.

Coincidentally, I just ordered this magnet.

I would not break down the revelation of his nature this way. I would say the latest you could think him decent was before the pedophile accusations (pure pettiness) in 2018. Though certainly I saw plenty trying to wave away that and pretend it was no big deal.

I don’t go out of my way to waste energy or pollute, but I’m not overly impressed that global warming is going to be solved by any individual driver who averages low to moderate mileage converting to EV. If it makes you feel good, go for it.

I have never seen the data, but I wonder how consistent persons’ ownership of EVs is with their overall carbon footprint. I’m sure a lot of people are VERY green - and I respect that. But I also suspect there are a number of Tesla owners who take several jet flights per year, perhaps heat/AC large homes/pools with nonrenewables, consume large amounts of products shipped from afar…

MANY years ago I had heard of dealers who did not prioritize work on cars bearing the stickers from other dealers. I’d imagine that is much less of an issue these days - if it ever truly was an issue.

JFTR, I believe you were

The Honda dealership and the attached service department near me always seemed at odds with each other. I always gave the sales guys a chance and they always tried to screw me so I’d buy the car at the next closest dealer. I never had badging so they wouldn’t know but they knew the sales side was sketchy
