Driveway cost?

This may be expecting too much of even the Straight Dope, but can anyone tell me what a reasonable per square foot charge is to replace a residential concrete driveway?

Seccond question: How much more if, instead of replacing it with concrete, I replace it with paving brick?

If it matters, this is in Chicago.

an unsealed asphalt driveway should be about $1.25 sq.ft., sealed can run you over $35 a sq.ft., interlocking paving stone should be about $2-7 sq.ft., but you can’t do plain concrete as cheap, maybe $4-7 sq.ft., if you want it stamped, add $2 sq.ft.

P.S. those are all Canadian prices… so subtract %10.

Thanks. I’m getting bids at the high end of your paver range.

Wow, I almost asked the same question in the last few days. I got a quote this morning for a 572 sqft. garage pad with 6 1/2 bag concrete, 4 in curbs, anchors set in, and a 3 in slope from back to front of $3,400. That’s $6 per sqft. That is with the old concrete removed, permit obtained and paid for, and the site pretty much ready to go.

Is that sealed asphalt price a typo? Because I can’t see how sealing a driveway adds over thirty bucks a square foot in costs. I think I can buy five gallons of driveway sealer for under thirty bucks.
