Droid X

Unfortunately, that app wasn’t made by Google, and it’s much inferior to editing a doc online in the Google web application. It downloads it locally, losing much if not all formatting, and then basically give you a text editor to edit it.

If you have a moment, can you try going to docs.google.com and see if you can edit a word-type document in the browser? Perhaps create one with a desktop PC browser first, then see if you can open it on your Droid X and edit it.

I have the T-Mobile G1, the 1st Android phone, and can open Google documents, but it cannot edit it. This has been a giant gripe, and I’m curious if the browser on later versions of Android can handle the web application. My G1 has Android 1.6, so maybe with 2.1 Google Docs is more functional in the browser.

I have the Droid. PdaNet is the bomb and is by far the most useful app I’ve downloaded. It allows tethering your phone to your notebook and using the phone as a wireless modem. It (effectively) turns your phone into a surprisingly speedy data modem for your notebook without needing a $ 30 a month tethering plan from Verizon. It does this invisibly to Verizon. This is not in accordance with Verizon’s wishes or rules to bill you maximally, and may result in you getting your nuts chopped off if you get stupid and start downloading massive gigs of data via the “unlimited” data plan of the phone. For simple surfing and minimal DLing it is unlikely there will be an issue.

Can anybody with a Droid X please try, in the Droid X browser, to edit a word-type document on docs.google.com?

I just tried, and I couldn’t.

Thanks. Didn’t expect it to work, but I’m still a bit disappointed.

FYI:
Google Promises Docs Editing on Android, iPad

Google is suprising clueless in some things. The built in Android 2.1 OS exchange app would not let you put an email signature on your emails. 2.2 has fixed this, but you have to wonder about how something so critical and basic to email functionality got left out in the first place.

Since this thread is reactivated I wil say that “Touchdown” (30 day free trial - $ 20 one time purchase if you want it) is the gold standard re Outlook / Exchange clones for the droid. It’s far more capable than the built in exchange client and pretty much gives you almost everything the full Outlook does. I don’t buy apps often but I paid for this one.

Is there a app u can download that let’s the droid x become like a I pod where I can play the music through my radio by say tuning to a certin radio station? Thanks for any help

I have had the palm pre, htc hero, and now the delis x. I’ve found that it’s great to have email and the Internet at hand, but they’re not user friendly phones. I loved my old cheapie flip phone - flip it open to answer, flip it closed to end the call. Now I have to slide something on the screen, then use the absolutely correct amount of finger pressure to answer. Too much or too little ends in a missed call. I also liked speed dial on my old lg flip. Press the button and I’m making a call. Now it’s a production. I guess I need a smartphone for the apps and a jitterbug to actually call people.

you don’t need an app for that, but you do need an FM transmitter; the Droid X doesn’t have one built in (neither does the iPod/iPhone for that matter.)

something like this one can work

note that this isn’t a recommendation, just pointing out something.

Sorry - the iPad doesn’t like the word droid and auto-corrects it.
