Yah know, the kind that flys ya in and drops you off in some remote area of the woods and hopefully comes back in a couple days to pick you up. Am looking into this and was wondering if anyone has either done this or have some good suggestions as to some outfitters.
My friends and I are pretty well seasoned. We go camping in the BWCA every year and have alot of great gear. Well, we want to push it a little further this year and go with some really remote camping. Prefer it to be within the Continental US atm. Thanks in advance.
Fly in camping can be really expensive. And in the 48 there really isn’t much really remote anymore. Most areas are probably within 25 miles of a road of some sort. Do you folks have backpacking gear? You can hike in 20 miles or so and get much of the same experience, without the extra cost.
You can pack in with a wrangler to Utah’s High Uintas Primitive Area. The wrangler will drop you off and take the string back, and come and get you when you’ve booked your return in a week or so.
I’ve done it a few times. Never saw another human, and I don’t recall even seeing an airplane. I believe all or most of the HUPA is above 10,000 feet.
There was a place in the news a day or two ago that would be just right. About 300 miles SE of Barrow, Alaska.
Except there was no way to fly in, due to the two story snow drifts. There power lines were down and the wind chill was -70.
