Drought & "Cloud Seeding"

With all the concern over drought, why don’t we ever hear of cloud seeding anymore? Is it just not economical, too local, only under specific atmospheric conditions? All above?

Maybe they just cloud seed in the MidWest? (I’m MidAtlantic) Does anyone know the story?

I have this “thirst” for knowledge!

Three problems with cloud seeding.

  1. a lot of times there isn’t enough moisture in the air to make the big wet clouds you need.

  2. if there are the right kinds of clouds around, it still isn’t particularly dependable.

  3. if it does get to rain, it will be very local, certainly not enough to break a classic Great Plains drought.

If it’s just a very “local” event, was it more of an experimental concept in its day?
