Dry Skin Help

Well, maybe I just had a good doctor - he didn’t load me up with expensive or specialty stuff, he helped me work out a skin care routine that wasn’t expensive or burdensome. In fact, I wound up doing less than before, as in some respects I was doing too much rather than not enough.

But as always, your mileage may vary.

I get eczema - my dermatologist told me to use a cream cleanser (I use Dove), non-perfumed E45 skin cream, and take fewer showers.

When I started working out seriously I had to take more showers  - I usually have three per day (morning shower, lunchtime cardio, evening gym) but I always use Dove and apply E45.

My skin is now the best it has ever been. But I have to keep it up - if I start skipping the E45 (it can be expensive), I can see the irritation starting to redden my skin in the usual patches.

Rhubarbarain, and others, that’s exactly what it sounds like - this winter eczema. The summers here are extremely humid and moist, so I think maybe it’s partially the cold & dry and partially just a reaction; maybe my body gets used to the other.

I hadn’t thought of exfoliating, to be honest. I should have - that’s a great idea. Of course it’ll never heal, if the lotion/oils can’t get to the skin underneath.

Part of the problem is of course laziness; I have a very short bathroom routine, but I guess I’ll just have to start making it longer to be less miserable. And I have started taking only warm and not hot showers, though that is HARD.

I’m going to go out today and get some good lotion and then start the combination of oil/lotion/exfoliation today.

Same here. Nothing beats Cetaphil for me, not even Eucerin. I use the moisturizing lotion when my skin isn’t too dry, but in winter, with alternating between very cold weather outside and dry heat inside, I use the cream.

Both of them last 24 hours, no problem.

If you’re going to exfoliate, do it gently! Being rough with it can make it worse since you’ll be aggravating the area and maybe causing little lacerations. Also, if you’re looking for a bath/shower scrub, go with sugar rather than salt - salt can hurt!
