I strongly agree with Kepler’s post.
But I’d add that I don’t think that the OP was suggesting that there’s a “halfway” position between evolution and creationism that everyone should consider. Rather, I think he simply meant that not everyone who is religious, not even everyone who believes in a creative God, believes that life did not evolve or wishes to substitute religion for science.
As obvious as that seems, it is hard to tell from the way thngs are generally portrayed in the media and from reactions I’ve gotten in conversation, a few of them IRL rather than on the uber-contentious internet. But as a topic for debate this seems pretty unfruitful. It may be frustrating for me to be lumped in with those who believe fossil evidence is a hoax and all that other craziness, but so what?
This is quite unlike the abortion issue, where we’re not talking about ignoring clearcut scientific evidence in order to assert that the bible is literally true; rather, we’re talking about values, rights and ethics, and I do think folks who take extreme views on both sides could profit from listening to some more moderate views.
Nor do I agree that anyone who believes abortion should sometimes be allowed is “pro-choice” under any reasonable definition of that term.
