He got a battlefield promotion.
Speaking of “remember when,” remember when Bob Dole did a commercial for Viagra?
And then he did a commercial for Pepsi.*
And then he showed up in aPepsi commercial starring Britney Spears!
*Wait, is that Eric Stonestreet as the clerk?
I definitely remember the Dole/Viagra commercials. The drug had just come out, and he used it because he’d experienced impotence after being treated for prostate cancer. Elizabeth even said that she was happy about it. However, at the time I worked with a woman who was a bit of a fundie Christian who wasn’t happy about him using the word “partners.” I replied, “You’d be surprised at how much hanky-panky goes on in some of those old age homes.”
Incredibly, he made a public appearance recently. He’s something like 95 years old.
And of course Jay Leno parodied the heck out of that commercial, and others too. Remember the Levitra commercial where a guy threw a football through a tire swing? It was out at the same time as Passover, and some Jews wondered if they could take ED meds during Passover because they weren’t extra-kosher; I know there’s an official term for it but I’m not Jewish. Anyway, the Leno parody featured a rabbi throwing a matzoh ball through a tire swing.

Geraldine Ferraro set the bar in the '80s:
[/QUOTE]That commercial isn’t as bad as an old John Stamos commercial for some kind of chemical hair remover where he compared its effectiveness by rubbing girls’ shins. :dubious:
