No problem. The elementary school part probably should’ve tipped me off anyway.
I think some theaters do this. Or maybe I’ve just seen other Dopers suggest it.

i’ve been to this theatr, not in the past decade, mind you, due to violence in and out of the building.
i seem to remember metal detectors the last time i was there. i decided if the theatr needed metal detectors it did not need me!
when it first opened up there were employees in the room when the movie was shown so disturbances were quickly dealt with. within 2 years the staff was downsized and disturbances upsized.
after stabbings in the parking lot and the addition of the metal detectors things have gone down hill there.
BoyfriendE and I got some kids thrown out of a theatre a few months back. I say kids, they were probably late teens. They were texting a bunch and talking among themselves and it was quite distracting. We each went out and complained to the management, each time a burly security type dude came in and said something stern to them. I’m trying to think of something scathing to say about their intelligence but will just mention that the third complaint was the last as the security dude instructed them to leave. One of their friends sitting elsewhere in the theatre was laughing his a** off at them. Yeah, showboat on your way out, kid, take your time, we’re So Impressed, you’re exactly what we paid to see!
So the theatre was willing to do something about it, I’m glad to report.
Yeah, the article’s mugshot is probably not the right one. I’m pretty sure the shooter was Joe Pesci.
I understand, everywhere you go you can’t get peace. I was in the library and everyone was on a cell phone. The FCC needs to allow devices that will prevent a cell phone from getting reception.
Look at the library. Cellphones are banned. So someone spend a half an hour saying
Ring
Hello, yeah ah ha, can’t talk I’m at the library
Ring
Hello yeah, I can’t talk
Ring
Hello yeah, can’t talk
Or
Ring
Hello
Security guard) You can’t use cellphones here.
OK, then the guy WALKS to the front door TALKING all the time on the cellphone. So he’s using it in the library.
The problem is you can build thing that will prevent cell phone use, but the FCC says it’s not legal.
They even had a church that had a metal sculpture that also interfered with cellphone reception and a church memeber reported it to the FCC and they made them remove the structure, because nothing can interfere with the cell phone reception.
And for once, good on the FCC.
Which is why they tell you to silence your phones, of course. So if the phone keeps ringing, tell the guy to turn the ringer off, or even turn the phone off entirely since he can’t use it anyways.
