A couple of weeks ago my iPod, which I bought five or six years ago, froze mid-song. I tried pressing different buttons, and finally held the Menu button and the middle button at the same time. It rebooted. Good thing to remember. Yesterday it froze again and I did the Menu/Middle reboot. It froze again after just a few songs so I shut it off.
This morning I turned it on and clicked Shuffle songs. Nothing happened. So I went to Playlists, Albums, Songs, and something else, and nothing was listed. It appears that my iPod has been wiped clean.
What happened? Is this something I can fix just by re-synching? Or is this a case of repair-or-replace?
I’ve had that happen when I’ve yanked out the cord while it was syncing. For me I just had to resync it w/ iTunes and I was fine.
Thanks. I’ll try that when I get home.
Of course if I got a 16MB iPod Touch I’d have nearly the same capacity plus Wi-Fi access…
I had the same thing happen with mine. The odd thing was it was the same album that caused it to freeze. Any time I played a song from Stoner Witch by The Melvins it would lock up. One time I had to do a restore through iTunes. It was ripped from the CD with iTunes, all legit. I tried re-rupping the CD, no luck so I had to delete it.
That’s another thing: I’d like to delete some tracks from iTunes. I was able to do it before (years ago), but I’ve apparently changed a setting somewhere and I can’t see how to delete stuff.
First of all make sure you are deleting from the main music library. In the Library column on the left hand side, make sure Music is selected. ISTR that you can’t actually delete files inside of playlists.
Then try doing a right click -> Delete. You may be prompted to remove from iTunes or remove from disk. Up to you. If that doesn’t work post back with more details.
t.
It’s quite possible I was trying to delete a file from a playlist, rather than the library. I’ll give it a try after I see what’s up with the iPod.
I’ve synched my iPod, and it lists the songs now. I’m letting it charge a bit. I haven’t attempted to play it yet.
Same thing happened today to my Sansa Clip! Had to upgrade the firmware (or re-load it anyway, but of course what you can download is the newest version.
This has happened with every mp3 player I’ve owned. WTF? I write firmware for telecommunications equipment for a living and none of mine hangs up or needs to be reloaded or upgraded (unless the customer wants additional features).
