Gateway, it’s not just this message board. It’s also employers and university admissions staff and a whole bunch of other people you’ll actually want to reach in order to get what you want.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the way you write if you’re using it among friends. You’d come across as a giant dork if you wrote any other way. But when writing to adults you don’t already know, you come across as an immature brat. I doubt if that’s who you really are, but when you don’t get into the university / job you want, don’t blame us here—we tried to help.
(And if you’re really 24 and you don’t know this, then you are, in fact, an idiot, and not worth the time.)
That was pretty much a given from the beginning.
I think the first post in text-speak should get a mod note, the second a warning, the third a final warning and the fourth a ban. It’s obnoxious behaviour we don’t need here.
Well, this is a very surprising development. I was so certain the OP’s last thread and subsequent change of heart was sincere and not at all made up that I assumed he would never find cause to post in an annoying fashion and call attention to it ever again.

No, but you see, he had a change of heart! He was moved by people’s opinions that his provocative OP was annoying and pledged to change his scurrilous ways! Only now he’s realized that he can’t compromise his principles and change who he is! And that’s the sort of epiphany that can only be expressed in attention-seeking thread form.
It’s all very beautiful and moving.
I had great hopes (well, okay, not really great hopes, but *some *hopes) that he’d seen the light with the last one and was poised to be a productive poster and in a few years we’d all laugh together about his rough entry into board culture. There have been a few of those over the years.
But then reading even his posts with actual grammar revealed not so much a valuable poster as a permastoned sophomore philosophy minor. Which I’m pretty sure we’ve met our quota on.
So, I think just this once, maybe, it ain’t the txtspk that’s the fundamental problem here.
