Apparently due to closer trade ties with neighbors on the other side of the Date Line, Samoa is skipping Friday altogether and going right to Saturday in order to be in line with them, date-wise.
Due to lack of interest, tomorrow has been cancelled.
Film at 11.
Don’t worry. I’ll pay you tomorrow.
Yeah. First thing tomorrow.
I read about this. What a weird event, but it makes sense.
Now, because of the way New Years Day falls this year, I have a 4-day weekend: Friday through Monday. I wouldn’t be happy if that were shorted by a day just to sync my clock/date with Australia.
It certainly makes sense.
I see that all of the online clocks have been updated to recognise Samoa’s 24 hour leap forward.
On the other hand, everyone scheduled to work on Fridays has been ordered to be paid anyway. So hey, free day’s wages!
So they’re going from zone +12 to zone -12? Interesting.
Other way round.
Samoa has gone from being the last in the world to start a new day, to the first in the world.
