DUIs: A thread in which Tripler loses his cool . . .

Shoot. I hit “Submit” too soon.

Gotta point something else out, Tripler; based on information from other New Scientist articles, pot does not affect your driving ability as much as alcohol. So tadc is correct there, as well, based on that information.

The problem I have with the squirt is that he seems to feel it’s okay to be a “little” (his interpretation) more dangerous while he’s behind the wheel. That’s an idiotic attitude to have, as you well know. My definition of “almost as safe” as a sober driver varies considerably from his; he seems to feel that speeding up and slowing down and swerving in the road is acceptable driving behavior. “Hey, it could be worse, I could be drunk” is his mantra.

And, tadc, before you ask, I’ll answer: I am against anyone getting behind the wheel if they’ve had even one drink. As I said, why take the risk? It’s dangerous enough to drive a car; why exacerbate the situation by mood- or mind-altering substances? Your right to get high ends where it intersects with someone else’s right to be as safe as possible on the roadway.

Fair enough.

I didn’t delve too much into the New Scientist, seeing as how his format wasn’t exactly what I’d call “solid”. I don’t particularly care for the li’l tykes wishy-washy nature (took me two tries to get him to answer one question), and I wholeheartedly agree with you on the issue of him and his ‘grey areas’.

He misquotes, and spreads more confusion than intelligence.
