The two Duke lacross team members being arrested is all over the news .
As a sexual abuse survivor, news like this hits a nerve. Rape is a complicated crime and having the media involved makes things even worse. There are no clearly defined lines between victim and criminal right now: one of the men has an previous assult charge and the woman accusing him has had run-ins with the law as well.
What’s bugging me is that Jesse Jackson’s group has offered to pay the entertainer’s college tuition. Thousands of women are raped or sexually assualted every year. I know from personal experience that there is typically very little help available for victims. If Jackson wants to do something really meaningful, he should extend his tuition offer to other sexual assualt survivors.
